Don’t think it mattered if you were issued a M16 or M4. CIF issued the sling they had for the time period. I had the green loop sling for boot camp, then the black 3 point for MCT, and finally the BF Vickers 2-point when I got to the fleet. I remember having 1 or two green slings around in that time frame(2011), but I think those were acquired vs issued. |

I was issued my first M4 around 2000-2001 (1st LAR Bn). No optic, carry handle sight, N1 type stock and KAC RAS. If I recall correctly, they issued the spec-ops style 3-point slings with the M4. (Edit: confirmed it was a black 1 1/2” three point sling) (Also add, I don’t recall CIF issuing slings then, it was unit/armorer issue) Hard to recall because at that time, most guys were making their own 3-point slings out of 1” nylon tube webbing and tri-glide buckles for their M16A2. This was pre-9/11, the era of the “3-block war” doctrine with a heavy emphasis on MOUT operations in training. |

2003 the only M4's I saw in our company were for the CO, XO, 1st Sgt and company guns. They all used a standard web sling. Later in Oki, we shot division matches with M4's and web slings. I got out in 2008 and only ever got issued a web sling. The 3 points I either bought or made myself. |

Yes, in 05 I signed for my units new in box M4s, the guns came in the box with a parade sling. The parade slings was what the Armory gave you, unless the command bought aftermarket slings until the BFG slings were standardized |
In the real world off-campus, good marksmanship trumps good will.
