Just curious because the descriptions are slightly different (velocity, muzzle energy but it could be the vendor) and so is the price per round.

I have a few cans of the MOD 1-C and wondering if the black and red box (D556N9) is the same thing.

You're a legend Bob.

I tried searching and came up with nothing.

Surprised they're using Hornady now. Wonder why they switched.

Cost I expect, as the this new Hornady offering is apparently cheaper than the SMK.

Midsouth is selling a no-name 77 grain called the Classic Match 22 Caliber 224 Diameter 77 Grain Boat Tail Hollow Point With Cannelure Item # HMK22477 for 28 cents a bullet for a 250 count.  I suspect these are the new Hornady 77 grain offerings, as HMK22477  is the give away.

Midsouth sells the cannelured 77 grain SMK's for 38 cents a bullet (if you buy 500), and the cannelured 77 grain Nosler for 44 cents a bullet (if you buy 250).

Midsouth Shooting Supply 77 grain .224 Bullets

Good call, I'd assume the same from the prefix HMK

Has Molon or anyone tested these out and compared them?

The Hornady thing is a separate issue than the SKU's you are asking about.

Its just the packaging. A 460rd case in brown boxes vs 50rd commercial boxes.
Mil vs Commercial packaging imo.

That SKU existed before any of this Hornady stuff.

Yes, that BH D556N9 existed before the Hornady stuff.  However, since 2023 BH has been using that "Hornady Stuff" in that SKU # in lieu of the 77 gr SMK.

That has been confirmed by Black Hills.

"Starting in 2023, Black Hills has been using Hornady projectiles in the red box 5.56 77gr OTM. Before then, it was always a Sierra projectile. This ammunition is loaded with Lake City brass that has undergone factory annealing which extends brass life. As a result of the annealing process the neck portion of the brass may be discolored until the case is cleaned."

I know, Im talking about MP460556N9 which is the Mod1-C in Mil packaging
OP asked if the Black/Red box D556N9 is the same.
The Hornady thing is a newer, different wrinkle in the question he is asking I think.

The Black Hills MK 262 MOD 1-C in the craft boxes was the most accurate lot of Black Hills Mk262 that I've ever tested.

It's the most accurate 77gr that I've tested for sure.

The only question I have is that I would like to buy a box of fifty rounds for Coyotes and similar size vermin. Is it worth the expense in my Colt AR15A4  with a 1 in 7 twist. Is it worth trying in my rifle zeroing in and all?

BHA-009 is the most recent can I got that has been ridiculously accurate but Molon is probably more credible than I am in that regard.

Depends on the range, it'll compound at distances. At closer ranges, it won't be too different.

What do you usually shoot them with? M193?
