I have .44” Dewey coated rod that I use for my .308 bolt gun and .308 Aero M5. Recently, I upgraded my bolt gun with a KRG Bravo stock and now the Dewey rod handle will hit the stock recoil pad and is now too short for my 26” barrel. I did some measurements and it looks like a 4” extension would be what I need. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? It’s either that or pony up for a Bore-Tech 48” rod. I know they a great rods but I’d prefer not to spend that kind of coin unless it was the only choice. Thanks! |

Pro-Shot is much cheaper than Bore Tech. The Pro-Shot quality is better than Dewey. I had half a dozen Dewey rods, first coated then the high polish uncounted stainless. I’ll never buy a coated rod again, they work fine and I managed to scrape one of mine up on CZ .22 ejectors. Some people say the coating can pick up grit over time. Not sure about if that is a real issue. Anyways I moved to high polished stainless rods. I got a couple from Dewey before picking up a Pro-Shot. The ball bearings are way smoother in the Pro-Shot where half my Dewey rods won’t actually rotate under load. I’m sold on the Pro-Shots. Even picked up several handgun rod cleaning kits.; .22, .32, and a .9/.38/.44/.45 kit. Their rod lengths for the longer barrels look like 36”, 42” and 50” That was in polished rods but they have coated as well. A little over $42 from the factory. I’m sure you can shop it cheaper. It appears they sell individual sections so I think you can add a section if needed. I’d call them first to make sure the threads from individual rod sections match the one piece rods. Edit……on the ProShot website they say their individual cleaning rod sections can be used to extend your one piece rod (in the same diameter rod of course. @Yojimbo |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

For the OP’s issue of the stock and the Dewey handle bumping in to each other he may not even need a longer rod, just the smaller diameter handle may fix that. It’s aluminum and smaller in handle cross section but a longer grip surface. Less chance of side loading and rubbing the rifling in the throat. I am guessing the Dewey screwdriver type handle is about 1 1/4” dia plastic and the ProShot is aluminum of about 1/2”-5/8” diameter. edit ProShot is near 0.61 so a nominal 5/8”. Dewey is 1.12” at the narrow square measure and on the big diagonal is 1.22”, so my guesses above were pretty close.
