Sling swivel has been removed along with its screw.  That location is for parade carrying of the gun over the shoulder.  Used in conjunction with the sling swivel under the FSB.  I've seen its removal for decades.

I've heard a couple guys coming back from the GWOT complain that the rear sling loop gets snagged on everything.  I'm guessing that's one reason a lot of guys prefer the N1 stock.  I also notice a shitload of photos where the rear sling loop on the waffle stock is bypassed by looping through the stock's slot itself.

That's also why there's also two different M16/M4 slings.  M16 is designed for parade carry ie over shoulder and M4 longer sling for cross the body.  Hence side sling swivel and attachment of sling to side of rear stock.  Toe of waffle stock is too long in my opinion.  Hence my preference to the N1 stock.  Toe and sling swivel do snag on items.

I removed mine on my issued M4 for that reason. I switched to a CTR for a short time, then I went back to the waffle with the sling loop removed.

Looks like I left it on for Afghanistan

I notice some photos show the service person using only the top slot on  the N1 stock to attach the sling.  Those of you who served with a rifle equipped with the N1 stock:  In your experience was that top slot sturdy enough and durable enough to last or did use and abuse eventually break that sling loop?

Examples:

Answer to question above.
I looped the sling around the stock so that the loop was just holding the sling at the end of the stock.  I wouldn't trust that piece to hold during hard use.

Cool.  IIRC USCG piggybacked on another DHS IDIQ contract for shotguns (because we used shotguns a lot and the Benelli M4 was slow to get in the system) that came with that Trijicon.  I'm guessing some GMs orders extras or just repurposed them when M4s were finally issued.
