View Quote My last piece of junk was a converted FN M16A2 to M4A1 fresh from depot stocks (it barely worked until I reworked it: A-lot of worn out parts and springs). One reason why most people won't see these for awhile is that they are in war stocks and at depot. There are still plenty of original as issued M4A1's to units still out there in their original units in the S.F./SOF world; they may have been re-barreled and rebuilt multiple times though. Colt M4's were issued out for a long time also and many of them got rebranded as M4A1's. Unless a unit life cycles their weapons or receives them later the chances of seeing one of them are pretty small. One unit I helped some time ago got their M4A1's very late in the game and all of them were rebuilds (From Colt & FN: M4's, M4A1's, M16A2's and M16A4's), they even have their own UID label from depot that are about .200" longer than the standard UID label. Some Markings are lined out, some are X'ed out some are milled off then either re-stamped or re-engraved. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it (maybe it is an era thing?). |

Then the M4 will be history and you all will be cloning them. |

Originally Posted By Combat_Diver: Won't the RAS be numbered backwards since the RIS came out first? View Quote It's all a matter of perspective. What is the meaning of life? The RAS numbering is more logical since the numbers are the same regardless of rail length and it lines up with receiver t marks. These probably aren't issued but I thought this was a neat variation of the RAS: Attached File |
