posted in the appraisal thread but no reply as of yet...

Need some help identifying barrel manufacturer and upper receiver manufacturer.  Curious what it might be worth?

Not sure of the manufacturer of this upper receiver & barrel.  It was bought new from a dealer in 1999.  Came attached to a PWA lower receiver.  Perhaps its a Wilson barrel?  Round count is under 2,000.  Slight rust on exposed barrel near muzzle brake.

20" heavy barrel
1/8 twist
FSB is marked: D98 (R1) 2      (the R1 is actually in a circle)
barrel is marked under handguards with:
SS
W
1/8

No markings on upper.

Kinda looks like something RRA might have done back in the ban days. At least the dowel pins in the FSB indicate RRA to me.

No idea on value.

Three characters side by side over the chamber.
First Character:  N or W...N for NATO chamber or W for Wylde
Second Character:  8 or 9...8 for 1:8 twist and 9 for 1:9 twist.
Third Character:  A, S, or C...A for moly (chrome -moly Alloy), S for Stainless, and C for Chrome-lined alloy.

Thank you both for the info!!  Two posts both pointing to RRA components.

Mine has what appears the same information, but different order:
SS
W
1/8

Probably safe to say it's an "assumed" RRA complete upper?

Did Wylde chambers exist in 1999?

RRA info indicates that markings would be "side by side" rather than oriented as yours are.

It's possible I guess?

Dowel pins at FSB are standard fare for RRA as Cliff pointed out.

Can't tell you who made it but similar stainless barrel uppers were very common in gun shows and Shotgun News during the '94 - '04 ban era.
After the ban died in '04, and with everyone going M4 crazy, you almost couldn't give such uppers away at gun shows.

Heh.  Glossed over the "side by side".

[Last Edit: SmegHead] [#10]
That is an ArmaLite fixed muzzle brake used until the late 1990s.  There should be a “weld” spot at six o’clock if it’s factory installed.

ETA link

1997

The shown catalog model has a plain muzzle.

The W may denote Lothar Walther
