IDF Clone/KISS Carbine Pics (Page 49 of 88)
Page / 88

[Last Edit: machinegunseabee] [#1]
Holy crap finally start a new page. Here's mine.

My KISS version is a RRA blemished lower, DPMS guts, CQD end plate, standard carbine buffer, standard stock, VTAC Mk2, magpul trigger guard. The upper is all BM 1:9 twist rate with a semi auto carrier bolt has the sopmod upgrade. I have the light mounted so I can activate it via the tape switch or thumb over the hand-guard so I can activate the click switch for constant on.

This gun always goes bang and hits great at 50 yards which is the longest range I can get to right now.

Things to do or add; shave down finger rest on grip, get an opaque flip cover for the light or a scout light and cover when they come out with the XM tail cap for them so I can have the same setup. Maybe a Redi Mag and a full auto carrier with a new bolt as well (I.e. MPI/HP shot peened etc etc) head-spaced of course since I've shot the piss out of this.

Wanted a jeep gun, something that could bounce around the floorboards and still be reliable.  Built this with spare parts and added an AA piston kit.  Have to admit, this is by far my most favorite AR, its light, accurate and with the piston there is literally no chamber/bolt cleaning.  The RD is from Primary Arms and has proven a real winner for the price.  Outside is all Magpul MOE furniture with spare Troy sights.  The camo is from my first attempt with rattle cans.  FWIW, the paint has been holding up great, after 4 years of riding in the jeep.

Here it is.....I had to strip down a BCM upper(within 5 minutes of opening the box) to do this.....it was worth it

Great job! The A1 upper truly has found a home when it comes to an IDF build.

Thanks guys!  And yea I could see a flat slip ring in the future

I honestly don't feel any difference when hiding the rifle from the 14.5 to the 11.5 barrel.....but it looks better!

That's about as perfect as you can get an IDF clone. Great work!

Mine is with John Thomas getting a "true" IDF barrel assembly. Everything will be correct with the exception of mine having 1:7 rifling. I can't wait to get it back. Viper's pics are making me want to start another IDF build. I absolutely love my beat up looking 13er but I may just build another "pristine" one.

Another thing I have been kicking around is having a batch of "clone-correct" 13-ish barrel assemblies made. No one is making them and the conversion work necessary to yield one costs more than a new barrel. I figure a batch of 10-20 would bring the price down for all you IDF fans out there.

That's my plan.  I'm getting ready to sell of the block II upper to help fund the mk12.  I'm going the MOD 0 route.  What are you thinking?

FWIW guys, I recently rented the movie Jarhead 2 on Redbox. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Marines using IDF weapons. Yes, an 11.5" A1 carbine with Eyal (SP?) scope for one. Also an M16A1E1ish rifle, again with IDF scope. Not a great flick, but watchable, and the gun porn is pretty surprising, if not accurate.

Bought a 1950 marked GP strap yesterday for three dollars. Looking forward to making a sling out of it. What's the best way to knot off the 550 cord?

My faux "NIckel Grass" carbine. If in addition to Colt, GM and H&R could make M16's, why couldn't another government-contract gunmaker produce one?

Let's say High Standard made one that ended up in one of the Israeli shipments in 1973, complete with Star of David proofmark. If HS did one in their own black instead of Colt Gray, it might have looked like this.

My first, of hopefully many, contribution in this thread.
A1 upper from the EE, teardrop FA from Brownells, 1:8 16" colt barrel in the white. Will get chopped to 12.5" and profiled to .620"
CAR stock is also en route from an Arfcommer.
I've got an Anderson stripped lower sitting at my FFL but a partial gate Nodak is calling my name

I will say, you guys are better clone builders than I. Mine will have a gunfighter mod 4 charging handle, BADASS, and blue force gear vcas sling, probably an ALG trigger as well. It will have a flat slip ring though and an A1 grip which I loathe.

Well, as everyone knows the originals were cut down 20's. I wasn't going to go that authentic for a figment of my imagination, so I had Retro Wizard John Thomas chop a 16" with a .625 FSB down to 13", then topped it with a standard A1. John did tweak the gas port a little.

The weapons for that movie were provided by Gilboa, who builds rifles for the IDF and others. Gilboa also uses standard IDF-issue Meprolight optics and FAB Defense accessories on their rifles.

http://idfcarbine.com/accessories/handguards-and-rail-systems/ There is an easy source for them now with FAB Defense currently building them for the IDF, and Mako importing them.

Cool.  Thanks.  Do you have to have a thin profile barrel for them to fit, or will they fit an M4 profile barrel?

I've only used Colt CAR stocks, and they aren't super loose. They don't fit as tight as a Magpul or a Rogers.

Back in the day, when there wasn't an internet (hard to even imagine now, even for this guy)..all there really was...was gun shows. Much different then now imo. More retail now. Back then (late 70s early 80s), one was lucky to find even 2-3 small tables that even had ANY AR15 related items. If I found a good part, I bought it. Saw and bought the ONLY Colt FA BCG I'd ever seen in yrs way back then. Still have it, and its running strong. There was absolutely no complete uppers, LPKs, UPKs, stocks, etc etc. Took me months to find enough items to build up my 2nd AR (and first ground up build) in 83 or so. Plus, prices actually WERE measurably cheaper then LGSs. Not so much now.

Only place to really shop otherwise, was Bushmaster.
