So I bought a low mass Adam's Arm's chrome bolt carrier https://alexprofab.com/product/adams-arms-ar15-low-mass-bolt-carrier/  for a song. I know the linked page says for Adam's Arm's only, but do you think it will work with either a Superlative or a Osprey system as a back up bolt carrier? I also have a extra carbine piston for my Superlative. My other thought was to get a superlative gas block and maybe use this carrier group? Think it would work?

As long as the integral lug is the correct size and distance from the face of the bolt carrier, it should work fine.  Clever idea BTW!  I accidentally ended up with a left handed Superlative Arms piston kit, and might grab one of those Adams Arms carriers to convert it over to right hand.

Just bought another SA pistol kit the other day.

Ran more rounds through my 'SPR' with the SA kit.

No problems. Ran almost as clean as my XCR and was much quieter at the ejection port than my brother's DI AR.

At this point, I have one DI AR I'm keeping and have no plans on altering- it won't be shot suppressed- and another I plan on selling.  For whatever reason I should keep the latter, it will get a piston kit. If SA made a kit for DPMS-pattern large frame ARs, I'd strongly consider keeping my remaining .308.

I prefer no bolt included in the kit. If you're going down the route of a build you likely have both a budget and specific parts in mind. For a lot of people whatever bolt is included might not be the bolt they want to use and it WILL add cost to the kit. I'd rather it be cheaper and allocate that budget toward the exact bolt that I want. I run an LMT Enhanced Bolt in my SA kit, as an example.

Not sure this will work. The strike face is different on the carriers. Flat on the AA, cupped on the SA. Yes, it may punch the tombstone fine and move it, but who knows what the longevity of that looks like.

Good to hear.
I am still waiting on mine. Optics planet sent me a email that says the new expected ship date is 4-11.
So hoping it will.

Out of curiosity, I am going to do a accuracy test before and after installing it.
I am going to mount a cheap 3-9 scope on it and shoot a some groups at 100 yards with it with a couple different types of ammo and see how it compares from DI to piston.

Guess it doesn't really matter to me anymore as I just bought a brand new complete AA carbine kit for $85. So now I will just have an extra for this kit, or just sell it.

Yep, huge advantage to the SA system as well. If you look at any modern, short stroke piston BCG from, say, HK, LWRCI, LMT, Sig, Caracal, etc.you will notice the same cupped strike face on the 'tombstone' and a domed end to the op rod. This allows for a consistent strike location on the tombstone by 'guiding' the domed end into the cupped strike face since there is a otherwise a fair amount of variability in how the op rod moves rearward in terms of left, right, upward, or downward movement.

Off axis strikes can cause op rod / tombstone peening and cracking as well as carrier tilt and inconsistent reciever wear patterns both leading to an overall degradation in the long term reliability of the weapon system. The cupped strike face and domed op rod combination does a great deal to mitigate these issues. Why Adams Arms doesn't do this is beyond me.

Does anyone know if the Superlative piston gas block will fit under a Spikes BAR2 handguard? I'm looking at the 13.25", so it believe it would be under the handguard on a rifle length system.

I put my kit on my 'SPR' with a Vortex 2-10x Viper. No change in ten round group size or point of impact. Very smooth shooting with or without my Thunder Beast can.

Edit: I tested PMC 55 gr. FMJ and my 77 gr. SMK handloads.

I can not remember exactly which spikes handguard I have, but it looks a lot like the one you have.

A DI system with an adjustable block is still one dirty bitch, low backpressure can or not.

The piston system gives you that adjustability, while keeping much of the fouling (and heat) out of the action and gas out of your face (and off the rounds remaining in the magazine). Easier cleaning, less parts wear, every bit as reliable.

Cons? Price, I guess? But spending a quarter or less of the time cleaning is easily worth that for me. Getting the existing gas block off can be a pain, but installation of the piston kit is super easy for anyone who can spin a wrench. Weight would be a con I suppose, minor as it is, as it's only a few ounces more. Adjustment requires a hex wrench, but that's easy enough to stash in a stock or pistol grip.

Nope. Optics planet keeps sending me "updated ship date" emails.
Originally it was the 11th, then they updated it to the 18th, then the latest one updated it to the 23rd.
I think they are hoping I will just cancel it and they not have to honor the sale price.
I can wait.
My DI tube/gas block is still working perfectly fine in the mean time.

Does anyone recall the piston system  CMMG used circa 2012 or so?
Is it similar or parts interchangeable with anything currently available?
I have a 11.5" upper with one, and I'm trying to pick up a couple spare parts for it (spring and metering plug) but no one at CMMG seems to remember building them.

I'm starting to think you may be onto something.
Still no word or updated ship dates since 4-13 when they sent a email saying it was going to ship 4-23 (which came and went with no ship).
However, SA does not even have this kit in stock on their site either.
So they must be in the process of making them if I had to guess.

@Jeeps-And-Guns

Optics Planet only stocks about the top 10% of sellers they have, everything else is ordered from the supplier/manufacturer they day after the customer places an order.

Optics Planet's estimates are sometimes estimates based on accurate info, sometimes just WAG's that some employee put in their system.

If the supplier/manufacturer does not have it in stock, Optics Planet most likely does not have it in stock either, so trying to "go around" the supplier/manufacturer to get it faster simply doesn't work.

Sven
Manticore Arms

P.S.  You might be wondering why then we (Manticore Arms) or any other company would be a supplier to Optics Planet, and the simple answer is reach.  Selling to Optics Planet is basically like having a free marketing system in exchange for dealer pricing- they have just about the best SEO system on the web for finding gun parts- TONS of people who have never heard of us find our products there, and do get their products in a timely manner (stuff we have in stock and ready to ship, which we personally work very hard to maintain) and Optics Planet often sells it a little bit cheaper than we do on our webstore, or offer a discount code, etc. that makes it worthwhile for the customer.

Hopefully that explains the Optics Planet business model a little better from the insider's POV

P.P.S.   Superlative Arms told me when I started this thread they were about 8-12 weeks out for having kits back in stock.  They still don't have them in stock, so I am guessing one or more of the components that makes complete kits (my WAG would be the bolt carriers) are still getting finished up.  The whole point of me starting this thread is we were looking for a piston system for an OEM application, and they literally were the only one I could find that is even in business anymore.  Hopefully they get a big batch of kits finished up soon so we all can buy them!

Did you get the clamp or set screw block?

I have the clamp on mine and my brother has the set screw. They both work the same, but the clamp on was a breeze to install. I did make sure to mark top dead center on the gas block shoulder and made a corresponding mark on the gas block to align them.

I'm taking care of a couple other projects, then I'm going to grab another kit.

I got the clamp on.
The gas block I have on there now is one of their clamp on adjustable ones and I have been happy with it, with not a single issue. So I decided to stay with clamp on.

Mine finally showed up yesterday.
I installed it just a bit ago and as I was finishing up, it started thundering and then the bottom fell out. So no trying it out today.

Install went pretty smoothly. No different than any other gas block.
Everything looks well made, the bolt carrier looks great. I installed the DLC coated C158 bolt kit I got.
I did go ahead and install the bushing in the upper receiver. The instructions said it is not required for function, but I figured what would it hurt to have a little extra support.
I also installed the piston spring. It says the heat will eventually wear it out, so I will see.

I do not know exactly which model of spikes tactical rail I have, as I do not see it on their site. It is several years old, so it is probably a older discontinued model.
However it does clear, albeit just barely.
I do not know if it will cause any contact or issues, but time will tell.
Hopefully the weather is nice in the 4th, as I am off work. I will then be able to shoot it then and get it adjusted.

You would think they would either just leave it out completely, or make a better quality one.

I threw the spring in knowing it will eventually fail, at which point I'll throw that out and use the system without it. Didn't even bother with the receiver bushing, and it doesn't look like I needed to.

I think the issue is some people freak out at the idea there is no return spring for the piston, but the limited space, heat, and gas make it pretty much impossible to make a spring that will hold up long term.

IIRC their instructions even straddle the line on this, saying the spring is optional.

Having owned both and played with those owned by other's, I can't think of a single reason I'd go with an Adams kit over a Superlative.

Superlative does sound like the better product, but having a source for available parts may help folks.  I know I'd like to swap to the smaller style gas block and narrower forend.

I have an Adams Arms and Superlative kits.

The Superlative is superior. Went together better, smoother altough it is rifle and the AA is carbine.

I think that a Superlative piston system with a Riflespeed adjustment system would be as good as it gets.

Railscales makes a 302 Stainless, Zinc Coated Spring that works here. The spring that comes with the kit is just a milspec piano wire mag release spring. Mine held up 1k+ rounds without replacement.

I cheated when Adam Arms had the fire sale last year and i picked up some parts and a complete kit.

That sale did not last long. My reasoning was just getting parts as a back up.

Looking to build a suppressed 7.5” 556 piston upper. When I contacted SA they made it sound like the measurement from the barrel shoulder to the center of the gas port was very specific, so I wanted to ask if I could get a recommendation on what brand barrels have worked for everyone.

Has anyone found any SA kits in stock. Their website has been out of stock for months.

I just ordered a kit last week directly off of Superlative's website. It was delivered yesterday. I believe you can setup an in-stock notification.

I contacted them yesterday about their .750 clamp on kits. They said 2 weeks. Not sure if that is a legit 2 weeks of an ARFCOM 2 weeks.

Does anyone know if their kits will work under a PRI round hand guard? They don't list that one on their website.

I am a few hundred rounds into my SA clamp on piston kit and I am loving it.
It is just mind blowing how much cleaner this gun is. It is so clean there is almost no reason to do anything to the BCG or inside of the receiver (I still do, as I am OCD). Just clean the barrel and gas piston.
I have shot a mix of semi and FRT.
No real change in accuracy that I can tell. No discernible increase in weight.
So far all pros and no cons.

Exactly my experience. I just finished up 16" middy and 12.5 carbine conversions this weekend. Install was simple. I went set screw and barrel dimples. I also went all in so to speak using POF roller cams, Adam's arms bolt springs and upgraded rail scales mag catch springs for piston springs.

Both are functioning flawlessly using bleed off suppressed. The gas to face reduction is awesome! Shooting brrrts no longer burns my nose or eyes, even a 60rd mag firing 3-5rd strings for the entire mag didn't gas me out

I used an H3 for ROF reduction on the 16" middy and H2 for the 12.5 carbine. I plan to try armaspec SRS in H3/H2 flavors in the 12.5" today.

So far I'm pleased with the results vs money spent

What is the purpose of the bolt spring?
Is the roller cam pin really needed/worth it?
I have thousands of rounds through various AR's and none have any cam pin wear to receivers.

A normal DI ar15 uses the gas pressure to push the bolt carrier rearward, while at the same time pushing the bolt forward into the breech in order for the cam pin to rotate the bolt without beating the shit out of the interior of the upper receiver.
with a piston drive system there is nothing pushing the bolt forward, hence the recommended use of the POF roller cam pin.  The Adams arms bolt spring helps keep the bolt pressed into the breech as the bolt carrier is driven to the rear.  Not really sure how much it actually helps there, but for the price of afew bucks it couldn't hurt.
