I see there was just a topic on this, but wanted to specifically ask about the piston LMT and throw in my priorities / scenario below. I am looking to get into the .308/7.62x51 game. What are your thoughts on these two options: LMT MARS-H Piston 16”, vs. HK MR762A4? - would use suppressed 100% of the time; I have a Surefire 300 SPS lying around that I’d use. Chunky at 8” but should suppress well. - likely wouldn’t really go passed 800 yards - thoughts on overall reliability, parts availability, weight and handling, etc. The key is reliability. I would add a G$ trigger to either, maybe a 2-10x -ish scope, and the can as mentioned. Otherwise would leave stock besides furniture. If neither, please lmk what else you’d recommend for a 16” piston .308. TIA! |

I have been having this dilemma as well. The LMT is definitely a better choice from a logistical and expense standpoint. I am sure the HK performs very well but its expensive. Parts are proprietary and less available/more expensive. Wilson Combat has an AR-10. I have heard good things about Seekins also. In all the research I have done on gas operated .308s, no matter what you choose, you are giving up something. |

FWIW I have shot the LMT and it was perfectly reliable. Not the most accurate gun in the world, at least with M80 ball (what is?) but if you are looking to stay within 800 yds it might suit you perfectly. Also, Nine hole Reviews has probably shot every gas .308 available on the market today. I would go check out their stuff and see what pops out to you. |

I know l’m going from LMT and HK to PSA, but man these Sabre-10s with the adjustable gas at that price point…. Sabre-10 Sabre-10A1 Can use the money saved on some nice glass. |

I have the HK MR762A4 and like it a lot. Smooth recoil with 168 and 175 GMM and both loads are sub-MOA. M80 ball ammo is hit or miss for now on cycling. The more I shoot the MR the more it seems to cycle better with ball ammo. I only have about 100 round through it so far. Gonna try some Winchester M118 and IMI 175s this weekend. |

I've got a DI MWS and a couple of reasons why you would choose it over the HK: -Go from DI to piston with a easy BCG and barrel change -Some caliber options -D.Wilson can modify other AR10 barrels for use with the LMT (not all AR10 barrels, he's got the details) -Parts commonality (not all) with other AR10's -Magpul mags are cheap and reliable -LMT rifles have now been adopted by several counties While all those options will cost you additional money, those options exist if you choose. My $0.02. |

HK MR762A4. Made it to the range Sunday and shot some groups. Not the best groups I have ever shot. Attached File Attached File All groups are 5 rounds. I should have shot all of them off the bipod and bag. |

My 2cents, good groups for a fresh barrel and a semi piston system - POP out 300 more rounds then compare groupation LOL. too soon to judge stable results from the action and barrel IMO, lots of metal moving there. I shoot with two MR762 A1's heavy and medium barrel both settled in after 300+ rounds and with match grade factory ammo (FGMM Berger 185gr Juggs, FGMM 168 SMK, Lapua 175gr) can do subMOA 5 rounds, ten + rounds <1.5 MOA, @ 600yd, not all and every day day jeez I am an average shooter. regards, PeterNNH |

I have about 150 rounds through it so far. This is my second HK MR762 and I am sure it's accuracy will improve. This gun seems to be a nice improvement over the original A1, having an adjustable gas block. Would definitely buy it again. Now i just need to get through the holidays and buy me a scope that will stay on it. Leaning towards the NX8 2.5-20 to keep the weight down. |

I have the H&K: - First 250-300 rounds - It was short cycling like a champ. At about 300ish rounds, it began to cycle properly. I cleaned/lubed the hell out of it before I shot it, I cleaned it after the first range trip (~100 rounds) and Second ~100 rounds. Cleaned it for the 3rd range trip and it fired great, Shot 200-300 rounds and it finally started to cycle all the rounds. Everything about this gun it tight - vert tight tolerances. - Accuracy, Like the cycling, the first 100ish rounds it was like 1.5 to 2.0". At about 100 rounds, the groups started to get better.... I'm getting about 1.25 MOA pretty consistently with it now. Shooting 168 IMI. - Trigger - the trigger it comes with is ok if you are using this as a "battle rifle". If you want to use it for target shooting, long-range etc, I suggest getting a G-Trigger. That said, it is a PITA to put in a G-Trigger as the 45 degree selector switch that comes with the H&K will not allow a G-trigger to function. So, you all need to buy a 90 degree selector switch. Once you do that you can change out the trigger. Overall great gun - she is a big one, shoots really well (after 300 rounds)....

| good rifle likes a good scope, on my MR762A1's I shoot a 3-15x for ar tactical shoots and 3-20x for banging steel out to 1100yd (308 starts to suffer there with a 16.5" barrel but still hits), out to 900yd and below rifle rings steel consistently. IMO NF NX8 is a good scope |

Factory MR762 SBR's are inbound, you might want to wait until there's more info. Price will be similar to the pistol variant. a 13" barrel with the suppressor you are contemplating would be a good combo without being too long to swing around. |

I tried to build an AR 10, with two different barrel lengths and gas system lengths and I could never get it to cycle reliably. Not cheap parts either, one of the barrels was Proof and the receivers were a Zev matched set. It was stupid accurate but Just. Not. Reliable. Comical malfunctions, like spent brass flipping 180, not ejecting, and then blocking the bolt. I’ve had a LWRCI early gen 1 REPR for a while now. MUCH more reliable, but not as accurate as my joke of a home build. But it is ammo finicky, doesn’t like surplus 7.62. Commercial .308 is fine, but I still have a decent amount of surplus 7.62 I’ve accumulated and I think a rifle of this cost and quality should cycle surplus 7.62 as well. A couple weeks ago I went shooting with a buddy who brought a REPR borderline identical to mine, as well as an MR762 that is a bit modified. G28 buffer system, G rail and one of the early A1 heavy profile barrels. It chewed through a bunch of surplus 7.62 that caused problems with the REPR. And was plenty accurate with some match grade ammo too. If I could do it all over again I’d skip straight to HK. Don’t have one yet, but I’m a believer. The "compromise" is mainly the mags IMO, they’re big and chonky and nobody makes them but HK. I like my REPR, but I wish I’d jumped on the HK 7.62 wagon years ago. |
