| I've recently bought my first suppressor for my 5.56 16” AR-15, and quickly realized that I need to do something with the extra gas. I do have various buffer weights: H1, H2, and H3, and I've alro purchased an adjustable gas block (Superlative Arms). That makes me wonder, what's better: allow less gas with adjustable gas block, or compensate for extra gas with the heaver buffer weight? Please advise. |

Less gas is a better solution in general. Buffer swap has a smaller effect, but is a lot easier to change than a gas block If you increase buffer weight and get the cycling and ejection issues fixed, you still have the excess gas blowback that hasn't been addressed, which can matter a lot if you're shooting high volumes of ammo If you have the block(superlative is a good one), and are comfortable swapping it, that's where I'd start personally |

IMHO, limiting the amount of gas is the way to go. However, with an Adj. GB, don't be surprised if the Adj. Gb gets "sticky" from gas fouling . Most all of my Adj. GB's are set to one setting, and left that way. So... if you plan on frequently adjust one, just be aware. I use Kroil on the adjustment screw, frequently. ( SLR's adj. GB's ) "side" effect is, you can tune the gas flow for the buffer weight you'd like. ( Less reciprocating mass ) All that said, I tune mine, then open it one more click for good measure, and have never had an issue ( 308 / 6.5CM LFAR's various barrel lengths, un-suppressed ) Using one in your 5.56, should help limit gas blowback ( to your face ) from being suppressed. |

Riflespeed seems like the ultimate solution for those who want to be able to switch frequently/on the fly. I think I'm like most though. I set my AGB on the absolute lowest reliable setting for unsuppressed and then just deal with being slightly overgassed with a can. If I have to grab and go without a can for some reason, I don't want to be searching for an allen wrench. Let is carbon lock there, WGAF. |
| This comes up so much I should offer up a service to reduce gas port people's gas blocks for way cheaper than those stupid overpriced gas tubes. Already have a gasblock, send it to me and I will install a gasport reduction setscrew you can drill out yourself or I drill you your spec. Hell the recommended gas port sizes are all over the place so there is not much guess work anymore. I should buy up those cheap gasblocks in the EE and fill them with reduced gas ports. Super easy to do with hand tools. |
