Are these buttstocks black? In the photos they look like they are FDE or tan in color but maybe that is because of the flash/lighting?

The Shark FN A2 stocks are a very dark gray with black plastic. I posted some photos of one here from the previous time he had them in stock.

Thanks,
I shot off an email to order one assuming he still has them in stock. I want one of his M4 or SOCOM uppers but they've been out of stock forever.

Chris mentioned in his blog that he’s hoping to get a shipment of uppers in the near future. I’d recommend giving him a call. He’s a great guy to talk to, and my impression is that he has a whiteboard or something where he maintains a wishlist for regular customers so he can keep an eye out for their requests.

Those FN stocks are excellent. He’s usually pretty good about updating his website, so he probably still has some left since he hasn’t listed them as out of stock yet.

Any idea on the mount set up? Shortage of 1913 mounts?

Doesn't that set up allow you to still use the irons through that hole on the bottom?  I always thought that's what it was for.  We used them just straight mounted to the upper, but I always thought that's why you saw them like this.

But you're probably right about the lack of 1913 mounts as being the reason since that pic is so early on in their issue.

Is Model 1 Sales GTG for A2 buttstock kits? Their price seems really good. Never bought anything from them before, so just checking.

Also, are these more grey or black in color?

I know that all types of slings are used on the A4, but what would be the one that would have been used/issued during the 2003-2005 time frame? I'm guessing the Vickers ACS sling like this? In coyote brown? https://www.blueforcegear.com/nsn-vickers-combat-applications-sling.html

I like to sling up when I shoot, are you still able to do that, is it still possible to do that with the Vickers?

Was the black M1 type sling ever issued/used, I do like these but were they ever issued and would they be appropriate for that time frame? https://www.ammogarand.com/m1-garand-black-cotton-web-sling-new-production-5039s-15039.html

Additionally, what bayonet was issued by USMC at that time, the M7, M9 or the OKC3s? Coyote brown on that also?

That and it probably was compatible with the M16A2 they had right before deployment.

This is what I was wondering. Did the early acog not come with a 1913 mount since that is an A4

More than likely at that time as there were shortages of optics, unit supply ordered the NSN without the mount.  Seen it done before.

As I did also.

Along with the FN upper from OOW I also found these. Had forgotten my son gave these to me in ‘08 ???

As I have stated before, looking to build an M16A4 along the lines and time frame when he was active duty. ( ‘05-‘09 ) Was in Iraq ‘07

Have all the parts and pieces to finish the job. Now just need to put her together .

For those interested, here are the pictures of the Knights Armament rail covers.

1) Yes.

2) A2 Handguards.

3) Maybe.
When originally introduced on August 1997 the A4 came with A2 handguards.

The M5 became standard on them around 2000ish when they became standard on the M4

Not necessarily, about right for 1997-2001 or spot on to what the Afghans bought/were given

1) Not really due to the absence of an A2 FH and bayonet lug. This is, after all, a M16A4 clone page.

Yours is an AWB (assault weapons ban) era rifle. No flash suppressor, no bayonet lug, a screw-type pivot pin, and it may have the larger FCG pins.

The Army issued me a new M16A4 in Fall 2004 that came with A2 handguards.  I scrounged an M5 rail for it when I got to Iraq in March 2005.

A lot of our M4s were the same way in the early 2000s.  We received the M4 rails separately, so they had to be installed on our M4s, and not everyone bothered to do that.

I did not know that.  It was giving to me by my dad a few years ago.  I’ve just not done my research on the awb.  I knew the rifle had the designations you listed, but didn’t know it had to do with the awb.  Thanks for the info!

My recollection is that, according to the AWB, a rifle was considered an "assault weapon" if it was semi automatic with a detachable mgazine and two or more of the following features:

Pistol grip
Collapsible stock
Flash hider or barrel was threaded and capable of taking a flash hider
Bayonet lug
Barrel shroud

The only feature that Colt has is a pistol grip, so it would not be considered an assault weapon.  In an attempt to preemptively placate the pro-gun control crowd, Colt also did some additional stuff to their rifles to make them difficult to convert to machine guns, such as larger diameter FCG pins, auto sear blocks, and differently cut BCGs.

For what it's worth, last Friday (September 13), was the 25th anniversary of the AWB and the 15th anniversary of its sunset.

My recently completed FN M16A4 build.  I added the appropriate UID sticker after taking the photos.

It also has the newer M7 RCO. But I'm cool with that because it is USMC issue and I prefer the horseshoe reticle.

This rifle just feels right.   Really enjoyed putting it together.

I was contemplating the same thing.  Just messing around with it at the house, it could use a bigger aperture.

Actually a good idea.   I likely would never have thought of doing it that way.   I'll give it a shot before I start reaming out the aperture.  Thank you for the suggestion.

Sabre Defense is not back in business.  The upper receiver group was part of a lot from de-milled M16A4s that hit the secondary market recently.  The lower receiver was from a private collection that was being liquidated.

Here's my recently completed A4 clone. Aero Precision A4 lower, military contract FN upper that came with a cage-coded RAS and carry handle, from Hans at GMI.

FN Bolt, Colt CH, and Center Industries USGI mag came from Shark Arms, Chris is super GTG. The grip I got directly from Knights Armament, I'm fine with it saying Titusville and not Vero beach.

It is a Black Creek Precision M16A4 lower that they are making now. The OP had someone do the FN logo. Here is what the lower looks like without the FN logo. This one is mine (serial number 1).  Myself and another individual were instrumental in getting BCP to make these, along with M16A2 marked lowers, a couple years ago.

My A4gery. Colt 1-7 barrel and BCG. And a Magpul grip because I fucking despise the A2 grip.

I can finally contribute to one of these threads.  About 95% to where I want it.  Just finished building out the lower (the lower itself is the only thing not correct, if I could get my hands on the proper FN lower I'd fix it)  Everything else is genuine FN or KAC.
