I see nothing wrong with that stock it has its function

but its not for me I like the fixed stock with very few exceptions

You can store all kinds of spare parts/oil/cleaning supplies in the A2 stock. I have batteries for my fiances holosight in my A2stock. She has nowhere to put them with that damned tactical slider deal.

The Vltor stock has battery storage tubes as well as a storage compartment, and though it may hold a little bit less than an A2 stock, it still has storage capability.  With that said, the folks that are intended to benefit from this modification are the ones wearing body armor with multiple pouches and pockets for that kind of thing, and it will be a great help for them considering the short eye relief of the 4x32 ACOG coupled with the long LOP of the A2 stock.

Bottom line being, of course, if you don't like it, don't buy it.  No one is demanding you upgrade your weapon with this kit.

i would worry more about properly shouldering and firing my weapon and having the right eye relief  then  storing things I could have put in a pocket or pouch.

and when did  weapons for war have to look pretty?

FInally pulled the trigger on a BCM 20" upper; already have the KAC M5 RAS inbound and will pick up the BCG and CH from SPike;'s Tactical. SO My A4 build should be complete in a matter of a few days.

Her'es the lower it will go it. Already have my eyes on the ACOG I will put on top (TA31RCO-A4CP):

I can't wait to fully complete my rifle and take it to the range.

Why the M4 ACOG and not the A4?

My guess is he got a deal on it? Because I just used the M4 RCO on my M16A4 at a Squad Designated Marksman class and having a BDC set up for a 14.5" barrel sucked pretty hard, had to get really good data on sight placement and was hard to break my mind's habit of wanting to use the 5 stadium line to engage at 500m when that just wouldn't work.

Actually because I was not paying attention when i checked the nomenclature... ; the one I meant to say was the TA31RCO-A4CP...
D'oh!

Good thing I did not buy it yet.

I did go up to Spike's and walked away with a Spike's BCG, a charging handle, a Matech BUIS and a bonus - a Remington 870 Magnum shotgun (police trade-in) for $175. It was a bit sticky on the action and the receiver had some light surface rust (no pitting), so i got the deep discount., plus a spare 18" barrel (the inside is pretty shot up) for free. Not bad for a day to burn some extra cash off my wallet.

Is a Spike's ST-15 lower (one of the Gen 1 receivers with the light rollmarks). Picked it up real cheap.

OK; did a parts pic to show how far I am in on the build:

Detail pic showing the Spike's Tactical BCG that is going inside.

The only thing I am waiting for right now is on the upper which is coming from Bravo Company; the two items left will be the sling andf the TA31 ACOG that will go on top, but i do have both a carry handle (Cardinal Forge made) and a Matech BUIS; both will be zeroed to the rifle as soon as i get the upper and hit the range with it.

It is closer to completion...

Interesting.  Is the magazine on the knee more stable than an elbow on there?  Were you taught that or is that a personal variation?

Link Posted: 6/29/2010 1:22:58 AM EDT
[Last Edit: DocBach] [#15]
I was taught to use the magazine on pretty much everything in SDM school, and that if that isn't comfortable for you to put on your knee in a kneeling position, to place your knee in the gap between the pistol grip and magazine. Non firing arm is rested on my non-firing thigh, firing arm is tucked in. Crazy stable using my hands to pull the weapon in to my shoulder. The magazine is resting on my assault pack in the second pic, because its hard to get the mag to the ground in full battle rattle.

If you got powerpoint you can IM me your .mil email address and I'll shoot you the rough draft of my ppt I'm putting together, got 17 slides out of about 40 done.

The muzzle with A2-style compensator, made my Jojo's Gunworks in Southington, Ct. They also removed the bayonet lug for me.

I happen to live in a state like yours also. How much did that A2 muzzle brake cost? It looks great! I would do one thing differently by taking off just the wings of the bayo lug, not the entire thing. Here is a pic of how it looks this way. bayo lug removed (scroll to bottom of page)

The comp cost $60 installed, which is a lot for an A2 lookalike, but consider that it is hand made locally and still a lot less than a PWS FSC556. As far as I can tell, shaving the wings wouldn't fly in CT. The wording of our AWB is "bayonet mount." Just because it doesn't lock on to it, doesn't mean it cannot mount. It hurts in my soul a little bit, but I have a legal rifle.

Not leaning on the magazine.... I'm pulling the weapon in to my shoulder with my non-firing hand, the magazine is sort of locked in place on the outside of my knee by the force. My non firing arm and elbow are relaxed on my non firing thigh. Incredibly stable, might look odd, but it works. And yes, I was taught it when I went through the Army Squad Designated Marksman course.

It depends on what year you want to clone?

Early 03, 04 clones just a silent sling in black
05-08 clones use a specter or eagle sling and an optional mag pouch from eagle in either OD or black
09- present use slingsytems please see my post on pg 39 and this quoted post on pg 40 tan or black is issue read up this has been a common question in the last 8 pages.

I'd say thats pretty much the definitive A4gery. Very nice rifle.

Here's the best approxmiation I could come up with for my CA legal A4gery.. It's got a bullet-button (fixed mag) to keep it legal.  The upper has a 1/9 twist instead of 1/7.  The lower is made here in San Diego.  Feels good to support a local business.  Unfortunately, this is my first build so I scuffed the bolt catch to hell while fighting with the roll pin.

The sight isnt a real ACOG.  It's a Bushnell Trophy T-Dot that I usually have on my Saiga.. just mounted it on here to get a feel for what it'd look like.  Ill probably end up going with iron sights for awhile on this thing because I can justify the price of an ACOG now.. barely had the cash to finish the rifle :(

DPMS AR-15 A3 Flattop Upper Assembly
KAC M5 RAS
DPMS Lower Parts Kit
JD Machine Lower
AR Stoner (MidwayUSA brand) A2 Buttstock
C-Products 10-round Magazine.

Anyway.. just wanted to keep the thread alive.. :)

Yea, it does seem like a quality piece. I was gona go for another brand at the shop for 150ish, but they had these JD Machine lowers for 110.. some shops have them for 100 around here now..
Everything fits very tightly.. no wobble between the upper and lower and the anondizing on the lower is pretty good.

My only issue with BCM on this upper is that it has (or at least is advertised to have) M4 feed ramps.  Probably makes for better function, but not truely a clone in the purest sense of the word.  Very nice rifle, btw.  I like it!

FWIW, my 100% factory (Part # RO905) complete Colt A4 upper has M4 feed ramps.

Yes, very interesting.  Would love to here from some of the Operators in the field whether or not their real M16A4s have M4 feed ramps or not.

Or Ebay if you don't mind playing their games. I picked up a legit M5 for $90 shipped a few months ago.

Whats a good source for A4 barrels? Have not seen many in the EE and other that Sabre or BCM no one else seems to have them, I am looking for a complete barrel with an "F" marked FSB.

Well guys here is my update.   Finally after a very long time, I acquired an ACOG.  It is the TA31F model which jives with my FN barrel date and what my buddy carried in '04.  My buddy gave me his stock pouch that he used in AR Ramadi.  All I need now is a peq 2 or a peq15.  Or both!!  By the way, the red stripe denotes 1Plt, G 2/5 1st MARDIV.  Semper Fi!
