No, its far better. Marines were buying 3 points like the Specter sling so the USMC found a lousy one to adopt officially.

The ACOG is not necessary for it to be an A4. There are plenty of Marines using the detachable carry handle/sight. The A4 is a flat top M16 with M5 RAS rail. It's pretty simple. On a real one the fire control would be Safe, Semi, Burst. Same as an A2. |

OK I'll try .......... required Barrel 20" flattop upper m5 RAS a2 stock traditional f marked FSB optional grippod or KAC VFG sling matech or KAC 300 BUIS mag pouch surefire 951 or 961 4x acog, aimpoint, or eotech there are others who would demand the correct ta31rco a4 but I think any 4x ta31 will work, others may also demand an a2 FH and a2 pistol grip I also think these can be seen as optional. |

Just shot in an Appleseed event with my A4 clone (pics on page 46) this weekend... scored a 222/250 on the AQT.
GOD, love that rifle! ETA: Used the carry handle sight, too, as I am too poor for an ACOG

I the way I figure it, I have spent the money I could use to get an ACOG or similar to buy ammo to train to use my irons more effectively. Not as tacticool, but very effective. |

A rifle that works fine for a 20-50rd range visit may show some hiccups after 250-400rds. Sorry, I have no A4 pic to share.

Why not go with the real thing? Find yourself an FN government profile upper, put it together with a Sabre Defence lower. Or if money is no object, just buy a complete Sabre Defence rifle and put the KAC on it. Any of the above will be as close as a civi. is ever going to get to the real thing (unless he's willing and able to buy an MG permit.)

If you had to walk, stand, march, or run with your M16 clone - it's a nice set up. Simple too. One adjustment point. No QD points or multiple buckles to mess with. I am on my SDM-R, but not on my A4 since I just don't see the value in it if the rail isn't free floated.
Here's the one I prefer on my SDM-R builds: 
I typically use the 1.5" model if I'm going to use the TAB sling. Otherwise, the 1.25" works fine. Saleen |

Where could I get those handguards from?
How do they mount around the barrel,do they install just like the stock A2 (three prongedhand guards that go into the front sight post)? I have a match grade AR15 that has a free floating barrel and I am looking for hand guards where I could mount a bipod and a few other things. |

I have an XTR on a carbine, and I would highly recommend it vs an RCO for recreational shooting... I know an RCO will go through hell and back, but I don't know about the XTR (because I haven't thrown it around). If you get it the reasons you should be getting it for are the 4x and the BDC... I mean you don't really need the 1x, do you? If you have 4x you're going to use it and if I ever found myself with that optic needing to clear a room I would be point shooting as if I had an RCO vs trying to use it at 1x. |

Yea the USMC did some trials, and then they announced that only one bayonet meet the USMC needs and that all others were not good enough. However that bayonet was made by a German company so all the US knife makers went crying to their congressmen and a month later the USMC was forced to settle for the OKC. Shame we couldn't have had the good bayonet.

If you are using a CMP type FF tube under the handguards then these will not work. There is not enough clearance for them to mount. |
