Looking at most of the pictures they seem to be of later USMC A4s with ACOGs. When the army used them prior to switching to the M4 what optic was in common use? CCO? Eotech? ACOG?

Has anyone heard anything about the release of FN's Military Collector series? I read that it would be in the fall, but a Google search reveals nothing new since it was announced back in the springtime.
I don't suppose anyone has an inside scoop? |

About 10% of the available transferable A2s are auto stamped/internals. That congif was requested by the Navy specifically the SeaBees. That fixed carry handle, auto A2 was the M16A2E3 which colt/military type classified the A3 despite the fixed carry handle. The M16A2E4 was the same thing as the E3 with exception of the removable carry handle. The M16A2E4 was type classified the A4. That all being said, 30 years ago a 35year colt employee/bigwig registered 4 virgin receivers days before the ban, hence the unheard of high 803xxxx serial number for a transferable A2. A2E3 (A3s) was the latest config at colt at the time, so the employee waited until the E4 configuration hit the production line to run the receivers through. He had 4 built up and stored NIB for 30 years. A few months back he held on to one but put 3 on the market. 2 of them sold including this one I bought. The 3rd one was just listed 3 weeks back, but it was still available the last time I checked. I might buy that one as well if someone does not beat me to it. Long story short, this is as close to a factory A4 as I could legally get. It does not say A4 on it, but with colt classifying the A2E4 as the A4, I'm good with that. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y261/thesnail/M16A2%20sn-8030063-1_zpsywutwfja.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y261/thesnail/M16A2%20sn-8030063-2_zpsyhe7vqse.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y261/thesnail/M16A2%20sn-8030063-3_zpsnkafbcj3.jpg View Quote I don't actually hate you, but I hate you. I don't actually hate you, but I hate you. I am super jelly. How much did you snag this gem for? She's a beauty! View Quote Haha, thanks. I picked it up for 30k-ish. This one serial number ended with 063. 047 sold and 080 is still available. I opted for 63 because 80 had a tiny scratch on the upper, above the selector switch. I still want 080 as that is more than likely the highest serial numbered transferable A2 in the registry. Along with this A2E4, I bought two other rare M16s, so I gotta fatten up the piggy bank before I can buy 080. Here is 080 http://www.davidspiwak.com/guns/colt-m16-a2-factory-flattop/ |

I'm not sure what years that one was in use, but I think thats what he's getting at. |

Cool Story Bro, but that selector switch & grip style is incorrect for that make/model/&year. Nice weapon, but clearly not shipped out that way from the factory. View Quote I was told he ran them through production in the early to mid 90's. I'm not too familiar with the switch/grip by year, but does that fall in line, year wise to the grip/switch? They were virgin receivers, meaning non anodized bare aluminum. I also don't know what the box (as in cardboard packaging) looked like for the 1990-95 era. Can anyone with the original box validate? |

I also got this SMG from the same Colt employee. I know a little about a lot, but 2 heads are better than 1. And 100 AR/M16 guru heads are waaaay better than 1 ;).
Anyway, SMG wise, does this gun look factory correct for a late 1985 to early 1986 era? Box, wrapping and all. *Very bottom of the page* https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_15/208426_9mm_AR_gun_porn__ok_lets_see_them_.html&page=90 |

It was 3 m16s that I bought for a birthday present to myself last month. Don't get me wrong, I'm not made out of money. I wish I was. I just have my priorities straight: Machineguns > Food |

(Id have to move out of state first) I'd rather snag a Colt A2, but would be perfectly happy with an A1. |

I'm glad I can finally post a pic of my newly assembled A4 clone. Two months of culling together the uppers parts, a 1/2 day of sandblasting, Parkerizing the barrel assemblies (also refinished my A2 build), and a 1/2 hour of assembly.
