I've never seen a Colt M16A1 rollmark on an A2 forging.  The happy switch makes that a bona-fide M4 instead of just another clone

Back in the day, some manufacturers used to offer a service where registered receivers that were worn out could be replaced with new receivers that would be marked and serial numbered identically.

I forget the exact details of the story, but IIRC, something happened related to Oly/SGW and the BATF put a kibosh on the practice, and thus, it can no longer be done.

Here are mine the one on the Left is a dedicated .22LR and the right one is 5.56.

Left .22LR
Surplus Ammo and Arms lower with PSA parts kit and Ergo Grip
DPMS upper receiver
TACCOM M4 .22LR barrel
Velocity Firearms .22 bolt
Black Dog Mag
Double star railed gas block to hold the handgaurds on
TruGlo Red dot, will change down the road but works for plinking

Right 5.56
DoubleStar Lower with Delton Parts Kit
Ergo Grip
Magpul MOE stock
Delton M4 complete Upper
Mako quad rail
Magpul buis
Vortex Sparc red dot
GG&G front grip
Streamlight Protec HL flashlight

You can see the corner of my OD green Condor 36" double rifle case, works great when I pull them out of the safe for a range trip.

Surprisingly, it still shoots.

Details:

  • LE6920

  • Geissele SSA

  • Aimpoint PRO (QRP2 mount)

  • Z-360, Gen 2 rear QD sling mount

  • And a boatload of lightweight Magpul (CTR stock, pistol grip, trigger guard, hand guard, vertical grip, MSA sling adapter, MBUS, MS3 sling, and way too many PMAGs)

I know it's not the latest fad, but that hand guard works great for my thumb-break grip...and the heat shield rocks.  I put another couple of hundred rounds down range today and the hand guard was still cool...even though the barrel and FSB were almost too hot to touch.

M249, I remember seeing that in the scar thread in a little different configuration. I thought the 951 in the old configuration looked pushed up a little more on the rail. Did you only have it attached by one of the screws? Nice rifle and I like the stand also.

Thanks.

I wanted one when I got out of the Army, but couldn't afford it back then.  When I finally could, I went straight for Colt.  No doubt there are better, but I wanted what I had...and what always worked for me...even with serious abuse.  After replacing the trigger, she is a dream.  Of course, this one is like a gateway drug because now I want another.

In order to comply with 'Clone' specs, what are accepted muzzle devices/flash hiders/comps and what about stocks?  I have the SOCOM 14.5" barrel coming from Bravo and I have a Magpul STR stock.  I also have the KAC M4 RAS as well as a Magpul Carbine hand guard.

Thanks in advance.

I say the number 1# choice in my book is the KAC M4QDSS flashider & Suppressor mount and is long enough w/shims to make a 14.5 a 16.00.

I think this thread is less a "clone" thread these days than just a place for people to put their M4 barrel based builds.

That being said, for "clone" specs for a standard M4 MWS would be the A2 comp (flash suppressor) - either on an SBR, a 14.7" barrel, or with a spacer and/or extended version.

For a SOPMOD M4 (which would be what the "SOCOM" profile barrel would be most appropriate for) it could be the A2 comp, the KAC M4QD comp, or the Surefire FH-556-RC.

For stocks, the "standards" would be the Colt CAR, M4 stock, or Gen. I SOPMOD.

Of course there have been a lot of variations, individually and unit purchased, but these are the "standards."

The "Standard Issue M4" thread, the "SOPMOD M4" thread, and the "Block II" threads will have lots more specific photos and information.
