I remember the Days of taping a Maglite on my A2, hell for the Marine Corps infantry, those days were until 2003 at least in 2nd MarDiv.
I have always used riggers tape for tape switch on the VFG, I mean the good serve-mart kind not the shiney OD crap you see for sale most places.Used zip ties on the wires, and to dummy cord my PEQ somtimes butt, learned that they will burn/melt through if you get that baby too hot gotta watch’em. I wonder if the make metal zip ties, hmmmm. An acquaintance just sold this on GB for $2500, nice, correct me if Im wrong is his light and tape switch even available commercially? this is a completed auction so I dont belive Im breaking any rules posting it. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/780524059 |

I never burned a zip tie off until going through a couple mags over a short period of time.
Also seen it happen pretty quick when letting a class do a “Burst” fam fire once, whole firing line did a single mag dump, just to show them how inaccurate it is even at ten yards, in most cases anyway. That same unit spent that whole night looking for a Peq-15 that fell off because one shooter burned through his zip tie “dummy cord”. I did warn them. Prolly depends in the type/manufactture of the zipties |

Best that I could reproduce. Don't have an available switch of the style with the over-molded rubber that I know works. No idea how it would work on anything other than a RAS as the relationship between top and side rail has to be specific (geometry and all that).

His light is an Insight M3X with a dual pad pressure switch. You can still find them floating around. |

^^^ so I'll prob end up with a sticky gooey mash hook either way? I thought about makin a quick fabric silencer for em. Just has to be big enough to slide over the hooks.
Well, it appears I'm building another early gwot m4. I purchased a 14.5" to cutdown, and then found a 10.3 at a good price so I just got both of em. @Combat_Diver, could you possibly post that pic again of your early m4 with the arms sir rail? I just found an arms 50c sir bi level. It's the delta ring model. I think I remember you saying the bottom half is polymer. Not too thrilled about that, but I'm sure it's plenty sturdy. I've seen vfg's on car handguards. Thank you. |

well, looks like I've found the m4 I'm gonna clone . I hate to copy ya, but don't mind cloning yer old m4 if it's cool with you. Your rifle popped in my head when I found that rail. Honestly a 552, and 952 is prob what most guys ran on those anyhow? Plus if you run your optics back, you have an instant riser since the 552 is absolute co witness.

Pretty sure at one time or another they've used almost all the main forges. Not sure what time, but af, ah, mb, keyhole...etc have all been used.
Are you curious as to a specific time of when they first used them, or do you just want re assurance that it's legit? |

The 50 has a removable picatinny to expose another picatinny, whereas the 45 has a top a rail that removes to expose the peq2 mount. Now I see. Couldn't find any good pics of the 45 with the rail removed. Eta #2 I always thought the peq mounted directly to the lower portion. I didn't think the rail flipped upside down for mounting. Here is a pic.

Here's my go at attempting @Combat_Diver 's (earlier '04/'05) m4.
One question, did you have to modify the crap out of your tango down vfg in order for it to work? I couldn't even get it started. The dovetails didn't even line up. Weird. |
