Somebody help me, what optic goes here....

I'm a fan of the 2.5-10, I've got a SU-230 and think the NF fits better on the Block II.  All depends on the purpose you want it to serve I suppose.....

I've even got a very special spare if you're interested

Yes, if you check out the article covering competition to combat crossover of tactical accessories written by Jeff Gurwitch (he is also a member of this site IIRC) for defense review there is a picture of a M4A1 with black FSP RIS II being used in Afghanistan. So while it may not have been issued there is one shown picture of use of the black FSP RIS II.

Sorry for the bad pics

I go back and forth. The 2.5-10x24 is a neat optic but I'd go with the Elcan.

The fact that the rail is date stamped means it was intending for a military contract. At least that's my understanding from what Stickman said earlier in the thread.

I should have just got the ecos when I got mine, It ended up costing more to add the rmr later, by the time I bought the acog, rmr, rmr mount, & larue mount, I could have just bought the elcan

Everybody is saying ELCAN so I'll pull an audible and say a TA01NSN with an MRD of some flavor - whichever is clone-proper.

OH HEY while I'm thinking about it. A buddy of mine gave me the body and clicker tail cap from his Surefire Scout M600, he upgraded to a body sold by S & S so he didn't need the stock Surefire Scout body anymore.

I need a head for it. I'd LIKE the 500 lumen Surefire Scout M600U head but I'm not seeing those for sale anywhere including eBay. What options do you guys suggest? Does anyone have something I might wanna sell?

Looking for something that is still semi-BLOCK II kosher.

Think I'm about to break down and just go with the Surefire 3-prong. Been holding out on going with a 14.5 inch pinned and welded in hopes of scoring a Surefire 4-prong SOCOM flash hider.

Hard to tell from this photo but I finally got the COLT original 1966 tear drop forward assist installed!

The KX2C 200 lumen head is pretty easy to find.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=583525&is=REG&Q=&A=details

The KE2A 500 lumen is out there as well for double the price.

ETA: I've bought a lot of Surefire stuff from BH Photo and it's always been a good experience.

Does FN make the M4A1 heavy barrel, or are they are Colt?

What pistol grip besides the A2 would be appropriate on a block II? Would an A1 be good?

Heres what I've got so far for my build on a budget:
Colt 6920 FDE Magpul base gun $850
DD RIS II FDE $250
Colt Socom 14.5" barrel $170
Trijicon ACOG TA01 NSN ~$250 in trade value

What I want/ need still:
Lancer L5 AWM mags and/or regular aluminum 30's
BCM Battlecomp mod 1 pinned
BCM or DD Low profile gas block (Should I have this pinned or just leave the set screws???)
B5 or LMT gen 1 or 2 sopmod (How are the Sopmods in the blue plastic bags? I heard these were out of spec)
KAC Taupe front sight
Matech buis (Will this rear sight work with the kac front sight properly?)

Eventually want to put a geisselle SSA or SSA-e in it too but thats another $200 I don't have

Nice build specs but ditch the battle comp.. no point in spending all that effort to have everything clone correct and then add a compensator.

I'd just go set screw, my loctite gas blocks have held up fine. Just make sure to acetone all the screws and threads beforehand, a lot of people neglect this step.

Blue bag B5 ones are out of spec.

Matech will work fine

I wish I could just use a flash hider, but since I am going to school in Nebraska and live in NJ, I will have to make this rifle ban compliant before I go home. If I permanently weld a muzzle brake, all I will have to do to make this gun legal in NJ is to put a fixed MOE stock on the carbine extension. I figured the battle comp would be a good choice because it looks A2ish. I am open to other brakes though if anyone knows a better one.

Mostly final resting configuration for this rifle.  The only thing I want to change is getting a coyote tan stock vs. this light colored tan B5.

It's a perfect fit, recommend two people when doing to avoid damage to the cables (which has yet to happen).  The other end, since no PEQ, is routed under the light itself (also requiring two people).

Which is the preferred way to attach a sling to the DD rail?  CQD or  either the Knight or DD push button sling mounts?

Also if you use the CQD mount do you use a HK hook or just thread the sling thru it?

I think cqd is more correct, either hook or loop, but I've found its just to much fan weight and the hooks are unreliable.

I've switched to qd mounts, though I'm sure I'm not winning purity clone points

I found some old pictures from 3 years ago. A friend shooting my first Block II build, good times. Note the black EXPS3-0, Chrome BCG, and M952V, I was lax on conforming to the spec parts back then.

But still, I had almost everything right.

I used to run CQD but it got annoying. Clicking of the hook against the sling points and the odd angle that the hooks sit was meh. I did use elastic covers but pulling those on and off to get the sling on and off sucked as well. I run the DD mount.

The CQDs (and HK hooks, for that matter) are germane to the Mk18.

If you plan or want to run hooks on your sling, I would drop the HK hooks will come unhooked and run MASH hooks on your sling which is a safer idea.

I don't think so, I think it's molded in. When I ran the SOPMOD I ran the sling through the slots instead for the same reason, lack of rotation limiting.

Yeah I thought about those, but would rather have a more functional brake that is not as loud. Thank you for the suggestion, however.

I suppose like anything else, it depends.  I've got a "home made" SU-237 in addition to a lot of other ACOG's.  I put an Insight MRDS on a TA01NSN.  I like it as a quasi do everything sight.  MRDS sight works well and of course the ACOG is an ACOG.  I'm torn on if I'd like it better setup on a BAC ACOG.  For anything fast or close I use the MRDS.  For longer range work I use the ACOG so the daytime illumination would probably get in the way (over illumination) more than it would help.
