I'd keep it on this upper. (Since the drop is calculated for 14.5 of course)
Congrats again bro

Same here with my FF RAS (I sacrificed a 552 from the CQBR) but I'm ok with rocking irons for a while. Doesn't bug me one bit as I like to be fast with/enjoy irons anyways. Still have the FDE EXPS 3 as well, which honestly probably will end up on the CQBR since I don't want it on my standard issue M4 build

I got rid of my EXPS 3-0 and G33 magnifier to afford the ACOG.....and I am putting an MRO and magnifier on the cqbr for now.

Test fired the upper I built couple weeks ago yesterday.  Couple rounds on semi, couple of bursts full auto (Mk18-1 lower, safe, semi, auto) without a suppressor.  Then couple semi and auto using the Surefire SOCOM suppressor.  30 rds total then back to teaching the Mk44 Mod 3 7.62mm minigun.

Wow, you're still building uppers with the KAC rail? Is that just a preference thing for the end user?

For those of you that may be bidding on the mislabled black gen 1 LMT sopmod on eBay, it is very possibly a fake.  That same guy has another auction for a tan gen 2 and it is clearly an airsoft knockoff that he is advertising as real LMT.  In any case, just a heads up.

Continuing the quest on my block 2 clone build and just received my barrel.  I had a question on installing the low profile gas block.  From my understanding, the DD mk12 low profile gas block is the one to use.  Should this be pinned or not?

Thanks

Not pinned, set screws only for "true clone correct."

That being said, many folks pin them for peace of mind, and since they're covered under the rail, no one will likely know unless you tell them - or they take a pen-light to your rifle.

CD (CombatDiver) would be the best to ask about that... I think I have it somewhere, but I don't have the time to dig out the maintenance materials he sent me at the moment.  Maybe he'll chime in if there is one listed.

I'm hoping someone does one with the right cut where the shoulder matches up with the end of the rail sometime. I might just have to breakdown and do it. With my Surefire MINI can it'd end up just slightly longer than non-suppressed 14.5" build.

The shoulder before the threads is almost exactly at the end of the rail. The portion in front is the thread relief.

There should be a rule that if you build a poor man's GL/SSC, then you gotta get that 203, just so we get more 203 action up in here.

Thanks for the pic and measurements.

Almost. Unless I'm seeing the pics wrong I can clearly see .1-.2" of the barrel past the rail. The Mk 18 (& GL/SSC) has the shoulder dead even with the end of the rail so that when you have a can on there (either NT4 or SOCOM) there's barely any gap at all.

We're probably talking about different things then. I'm talking about this:

I'm just simply saying it'd be cool to see a build where it's even like a Mk 18. I've thought about doing one for awhile and think it would look slick.

Not clone correct but hopefully this clears it up. 13.375" barrel, the shoulder behind the threads is flush with the end of the M4A1 RIS II.
