@WolfTrack

Looks like you posted these pics about 3 years ago, but looking for info on the qd attachment point (rear/left near receiver) in the second photo. Who makes this and does having it installed increase length of pull on the fixed stock? Thanks in advance to you, or anyone else who knows.

its a polymer lower made by GWACS, formerly made by Cav arms. Stock is molded into the receiver for strength - plastic has different properties than aluminum and simply molding an A2 lower out of polymer is going to have major strength detriments, largely where the buffer tube screws into the lower.
The whole point of a polymer lower is weight reduction.

This set-up is exceptionally sweet and has not had any kind of failure at all (only about 300 rounds so far) and as of today is shooting into a 2" ball at 50 yards with a 4x scope.

Nobody laughed at that and I appreciate it! The thing is, I soon realized that the trigger set I had then was awful and it was affecting my shooting. The whole idea of the 'mini-rifle' was to get rifle accuracy out of a carbine, so I ended-up with an ALG-ACT, the one that was fully coated in the Nickel-Boron alloy. That was exactly what I needed and I was subsequently able to zero at 100 yards with 1.5" groups using IMI 77 gr. 'Razor-Core'.
I still have this great 'middy' and always look forward to punching some paper with it.

I’ve got a question ... I took a PSA stainless midlength upper with a A frame front sight.  Pulled it apart and put it back together on an A1 style receiver. I have not shot it yet, but suspect the front sight will be too tall.  Any easy fix, or am I worrying about nothing?

Miami_JBT I love that! Going to be doing the same thing with a no stamp pistol build. Is that a 12.5" barrel with true midlength gas or a Kino configuration with carbine gas? I found a KAK 12.5" barrel with actual mid length gas I'm planning to use. How does your sbr cycle? Thanks!

A Dissipator is a 16 inch carbine with a rifle length gas system and sight radius. PSA had FN make a 16 inch barrel with a midlength gas system and placed a second bas block at the original location to get the rifle sight radius.

Only 60 rounds fired so far, runs great, very little recoil, just a bit nose heavy.  The Levang comp works great, could almost shoot without hearing protection.

I ran into a problem with my middy/fixed stock - shooting some IMI 77gr I popped a primer. Discussing it on another forum 'over-gassed' was mentioned, which started me really thinking and also checking out the AR. Right off the bat it hit me that when I bought the refurbished M16A1 stock, tube, buffer and spring as a set, I did not test or replace the spring - mistake #1 - the spring was weak and visibly shorter than a new one (I do not yet have 1000 rounds on this set-up so it was well-used when I installed it). Also, a rifle spring and buffer may still be too light for a mid-length gas system with certain ammunition, like IMI 77gr Razor Core that is known to be hot - mistake #2.
I happened to have on-hand a new Wolff 'Standard' rifle spring so I installed it - immediately felt a stronger resistance on the charging handle. Took it to the range yesterday and everything runs fine with no more loose primers and I got my accuracy back too. Accuracy can be affected by a weak spring because of early extraction (which causes blown primers) and hammering in the buffer tube.
So anybody running a rifle receiver extension with a mid-length gas, which should be just about everybody in this thread, you might have to change springs more often and/or use a heavier spring depending on the loads you use.

CMMG complete upper, 16" RECCE-profile 1:7, chrome-lined, mid-length gas barrel, Strike 'Warhog' compensator, M16 BCG. Aero Precision (old rollmark) lower with ALG-ACT, M16A1 stock. TA01 ACOG. I cut down the sight base since it really doesn't have a purpose.

Your rifle is gorgeous.  What spring/buffer do you suggest?  You raised a great point and it has me thinking now.  I’ve never worried about buffer or spring weights with a rifle stock as I’ve always dealt with rifle gas.

Thought the barrel looked familiar. I'm using a CMMG midlength "medium contour."

Love the ground down fsb, I'm too chicken to do that. For now...

Yes, 'Medium Contour'. Hasn't been available for some time. When you check the dimensions for the 'RECCE' barrel it matches. Cutting off the top of the sight base is not a big deal but I see you still have a BUIS so it would be out of the question. I did it mainly to save a few ounces out front plus maybe a slightly more clear view through the ACOG. If you ever do it, use a hacksaw and leave a little meat above the gas tube. I mainly used a file to round off the stubs and I still left a little flange there - kind of protecting the gas tube. Assuming Parkerizing, touch-up with Alumahyde II 'Dark Parkerizing'.

Thank you! I think all you have to do with a rifle stock, spring and buffer and middy gas is make sure you have a good standard rifle spring. I can vouch for the Wolff 'Standard' rifle spring. Now if anybody has done a carbine gas and rifle stock (I have back in the ban era) you probably will need an extra-power recoil spring. Back then I wasn't thinking about these things - the thing worked although I couldn't hit much with it. Now I would say that was due to the buffer hammering the back end of the tube and jerking the rifle. Eventually it got a carbine stock simply because it was more cool. :)
