Tar Heel State Firearms sure has a fast turn around time on engraving.

Mailed my Colt lower on Monday. It got there today, they engraved it and shipped it back today, and now it’ll be here Friday.

Ordered a CQD front sling mount too Was thinking of just using a DD qd point that’s considered clone correct but why cheap out now

Unexpected page ownage.

Well, made some pretty major progress on CQBR V2 :D.

First, I scored a new EXPS3-0 tan for $469 yesterday. Thus motivated, I decided I was tired of looking at a pile of parts, so I broke out the tools and got the URG fully assembled. Checked headspace, installed the RIS II with fresh Vibratite and everything is good to go. Ended up building on my CAGE code upper - the upper/lower fit was just better. Got my new TD Stubby QD from Euro Optic today as well - thanks again for the heads up, JLAudio.

Mmm, fresh CQD:

So, the only thing left is ye olde taupe 99051 and last, but certainly not least, the mighty NT4. I should know something tomorrow about how long I'd have to wait if I want the best deal on an NT4. If it's more than a week or two, I'm probably just gonna go ahead and order the one that is in stock. We shall see tomorrow :D.

For those having canted rails suggest when you tighten the screws use a detachable carrying handle, PRI mounting block or a plastic block that bridges your upper receiver and DD RIS II.  By having the block bridging the two together ensuresthe two are straight together and not offset when assembling.

Very good point; kinda surprised DD doesn't mention this in the installation manual. Personally, I always use some sort of bridge, and I've had good luck using all kinds of stuff - on this latest URG, I just used the QD Stubby because it was handy. When swapping to the new RIS II on my old URG, I used the EXPS3. In the past, I've even used an old KAC panel with the clip removed for alignment, lol. Anything that is long enough and gives a reasonably firm hold.

Other than that, I tighten evenly in the order recommended by DD - bottom hand tight, center tightened evenly first, followed by the bottom, then top - and visually check alignment as I go. Usually turns out perfectly the first go. If I'm feeling extra anal retentive, I'll verify perfect alignment with a caliper ;p.

CD: thanks for the idea.

i had one of these laying around, 5.5" long pic rail riser.  supplemented with three small C-clamps: one in the middle, one at each end.  I had previously tried it with a carry handle but that didn't lock the pic rails together enough.

Forgot to mention, don't lock both clamps down at first as you'll need some slippage as the rail is compressed with the screws.  It is to serve as a guide.

Where on the lower are you having the engraving done? I am taking mine today to a local place and thinking of the inside magwell lip area.

Agreed. I use my arms #38 ex riser to bridge the upper and rail when I install ris ii's. then I just keep an eye on the left/right positioning as I tighten it. Helps to keep the top picatinny continuous and keeps the barrel centered. Anything that will span the upper and rail will work. Haven't had any alignment issues installing this way.

Tarheel did my 3 recent form 1 lowers too. If you are nervous (like I was) about mailing registered lowers, don't be. Smooth as butter with tarheel and same day turnaround. Apparently most popular SBR/FFL engravers turn them around same day so they do not have to do paperwork on taking receipt of the registered lower.

I had them done in the trigger area. They reblack the engraving after, you genuinely cannot see it unless you are looking for it. Highly recommend Tarheel.

Remember that engraving is a 1 shot deal, I could have had them done locally from someone that "thinks" he can do it, but I did not want to mess up a colt lower.

Visited my can today. Brought my non-clone 10.3" mash-up rifle to mount it on for IG pics, so please excuse the Geissele MK8 9.5" DDC rail in the pic.

Nice and new. Soon enough, she'll be fouled up like a TOYOTA Prius C that just got coal rolled by an F350 diesel with stacks and a smoke switch!

Funny story, one of the store managers was like "Nice can. Do they make that in 9mm? I want a cool looking can..." I was like, "No. No they don't." and thinking, you wouldn't pay $1,500 for a 9mm can anyway - especially if you're just buying based on looks.

You should have told him no, but you can spend $500 more for a 9mm KAC can that you can only use on one pistol with a specifically modified barrel.

PS- Those IG pics are . That can looks good on that rifle.

Affirmative, just a polymer Magpul rail section. However, the WMX has since moved to the mod 1 and has been replaced with a Arisaka 300 on their new side mount. The WMX really stuck out a lot since it's also the rotational body and cancelled out the slimmer rail so I went with the tidier setup.

shes done for now. ATPIAL-c is on

I need to switch the elcan out for a gen 2 in bronze (dreams). Brodband8 on here has the exact look I dream of
And it feels naked without rattle can. Well see, wanted to keep this one black for the most part but idk
picked up one of these old logo exps3s and man is it way less finnicky than the elcan, but elcan is life. Have an extra wmx maybe an m4 block ii or sell to recoup my funds because I am poor

That's a smart place to put the engraving. Wish I had known about that option; mine's just on the side of the receiver. On another note, that seam in the picture is typical on Colt lowers and it sure is fugly. My Colt lower has it too. However, my Daniel Defense lower does not have this is and is machined so much nicer. But #clonelyfe

I feel like such a n00b asking this, but how high up are the sight posts on all y'alls 99051s?

This is mine, paired with a KAC 200-600 all the way at the rear, when zeroed at 25m using the Z mark on the rear sight. It all co-aligns with my CompM2's zero, why is it is soooo high up though?
