Can anyone school me on clone correct lasers? I typically don't care about sacrificing modern technology for being clone correct, but I'm wondering if the laser may be the time to go modern. I'm just getting into NV so its all very foreign.

For all I know Carolina could have done it as a custom job. I might show them a pic and ask if they remember doing it. The UID was a Carolina SU230 UID, the usual. |

Is there any difference between the uppers I posted besides one being stripped? Both are supposed to have a .070 gas port size. But one has Daniel Defense in small lettering and other has laser engraving of caliber and MK18 on side. Thanks!

So they are the same just with different laser engraving and dust covers? For some reason I though the one from DD site was Mil/LEO only or something
The Brownells URG also has the correct Mk12 gas block, whereas the complete URGs direct from DD are pinned. The Brownells version is a "custom URG" built specifically for them with the correct Mk12 block and the hideous "Mk18" laser engraving removed, the one from DD is their regular commercial version.
Neither are "LEO/Mil only." |

But I will ask him as to answer your question... And I take back anything negative I said about that barrel... It's pretty awesome even with the .081 gas port size and was easily tameable with a Kaw Valley H3 buffer and a JP "Enhanced" flat ground wire buffer spring... Slings the weak sauce to hot sauce ammo between 2:30-3:15 in neat little piles 3' away. Damn "cloverleaf" accurate too with the heavy pills (69-77grain.) He loves it so it's a winner all the way around. Used a Strike Industries 4 prong flash hider that dubs as a wire cutter and glass break as well which I thought is pretty cool... |

Oh, they're excellent barrels. Extremely consistent chambers (all my DD 10.3" barrels produce the same fire-formed brass headspace measurements), nice attention to detail on things like the fully polished feed ramps and very accurate for a duty-grade barrel. I don't shoot for groups much unless I'm load testing or zeroing, but my most accurate bulk 55gr HP/SP load can post a hair under 1/2" 5rd groups at 50 yards with a G33/EXPS3--not too bad when most factory 55gr is around 2-3moa (1"-1.5"). No idea if it'd hold 1moa out to 100--much less average it--but that's plenty accurate for my purposes with a CQBR. Even if it would, I can't see well enough to shoot tiny groups at 100 with a 3x magnifier, much less with a 2moa red dot covering everything up, lol. No trouble ringing steel center mass out to 200+ though, which is all the precision I need. All the same, needed or not, I'll take a barrel/ammo combo capable of drilling 1/2" holes over 1.5" holes any day of the week :D. Rainer is just a rip-off when it comes to prices on most things; if you wanna pay retail+ that's the place, lol. The same barrel is $240 with discounts from Brownells and potentially even less elsewhere. |

Does anyone still do SU231-A/PEQ or SU-231A/PEQ NAVSEA engraving for clones?
I emailed CLW and this was the response. "We no longer offer the service. L3 asked us to not do them any more. I am sorry." If a guy had access to a laser and the .dfx this would be quick and easy aside from the refinish first. If this was already covered in this thread sorry for the dupe. |
