Parting out will almost always yield better results. Especially in the clone game when people may be chasing one specific part.

My 99051 came in, I picked up a TA01NSN, I as far as a reflex sight for the top goes what do people prefer the MRDS by insight or the docter sight? I did a little bit of digging and they both seem pretty solid, should I just take whichever I can find a deal on first? Also the JP enterprises wing mount specifically this one is that the docter mounting style? Sorry if these are noob questions but I have exactly zero experience with these tiny red dot sights.

You're not going to go wrong with any of the military used piggybacked sights. RMR, MRDS, Docter, Jpoint. Compare specs/reviews, find a deal on one of the above, and roll with it.

I'm running an MRDS on my TA01 and like it.  I've got a couple RMR's on other firearms and they also work well.  The Doctors and Jpoints aren't as easy to adjust as the earlier listed options.  The huge upside of the MRDS is you can replace the battery without removing the optic.  That equals no re-zero.  I like the Trijicons as I've always had good luck with their optics and they are tanks.  Pretty much any of them will work.  Heck, I used to run a Docter on a full auto UZI and it survived......

What mount are you using for that set up (the MRDS on the TA01) if you don't mind me asking?

As for me, I use the JP enterprises mount on both my TA01NSN and TA31... I dig the JPoints... I also have a Burris Fastfire III on another TA31 which I really like as well, although its the 3 MOA dot, and can be a little small in brighter sunlight even on the maximum setting. THe JPoint dot is like a fireball when you need it and the auto brightness function I really like, the only downside with it washing out under low light conditions when using a flashlight... but that's a problem with most red dots I guess...

I have gone through two ACOG/RMR set ups... the RMR is by far the most rugged bomb proof optic with awesome adjustments, but I got two JPoint set ups for the price of one RMR set up so I went with those.

You'll be fine either way.

The MRDS has the same footprint as a Doctor so I just used the old Trijicon mount.  Works fine.

This.  The original manufacturer made the lower, you (your trust) made the SBR.

Maybe or sort of.

AFG circa 2004 REF gave us some CQBR uppers to try...and they were h-e-a-v-y.  Whatever they were made from, they were heavier than M4-profile barrels (so I assume chopped SOCOMs).

At the time, I never knew there would be an ARFCOM clone thread so I never thought to ask about their pedigree, but they were certainly a group of one-offs REF had someone make.

Maybe they were LMTs? Recall whether they were 10.5, or would you have noticed back then? LMTs are heavier under the handguard than government profile.

Keep an eye out on eBay for PEQ's/ATPIAL-C's as well. Armslist and EE for the rails, as well as local shops sometimes.

I think in the very first MK18 thread some people had reported that various 10.5" barrels were bought commercially and used as replacement parts and possibly to build uppers as well. The uppers you are talking about could have been built up using these barrels.

Edited to add: I am not referring to the LMT uppers, the barrels were Bushmaster or some other commercial manufacturer. I guess technically these were not MK18s by a purist definition but were issued USGI SBRs.

Any recommendations on where to pick up KAC micro front sights (doesn't have to be taupe) that I wont be giving up my first born or getting a fake or stolen item? I feel like I've read about a lot of fakes or stolen shit out there and you mk18/CQBR guys are always in the know for the clone items.

Skip the front sight and put an ATPIAL-C up there, the iron is almost 20% of what you can find a used one for.

Going to be selling this Aimpoint soon, always give you guys first dibs.

Are they really that hard to find these days? (The new "fixed?" model)?

I would assume Optics Planet would have them although I haven't checked. I know they're shady as fuck but I didn't have any issues when I ordered an EXPS from them. They did drop ship it tho

No I don't think so. They are all over ebay its just I really liked DSG arms, they ship fast, and I know I would be getting a good product. If it wasn't, well, returning it isn't as issue with them. I was going to order one through Optics Planet but didn't want to risk not getting it for 8 weeks or something and would save 20 bucks from DSG Arms with the .mil pricing.

I would prefer a 2017 model, but I wasn't under the impression that they really fixed much of anything (I see your "fixed" and get your meaning). I thougth the 2016 and newer sights fixed the whole nitrogen leak/delamination thing though.

This was probably 3 years ago so i don't know if it still applies but I believe it took them 2 weeks to get my EXPS to me. I got the impression that they only had the stupid OPMOD marked ones in house so they had to drop ship mine.

I do know EOTech claims the new ones are fixed as far as the common issues go but that's all I really know about it since I took a break from guns right after the whole EOTech debacle happened

Surefire's were never run on Block 1s correct? I could probably swing one of those, I just don't know if I can do another $700 for the NT4.

The Legacies were on L119A1's, those are sweet... you could build one of those.

I'd still get the Surefire for when you build a Block II...

If I were doing it again I'd get a Surefire 7.62 mini. Looks like the SOCOM, and you can always shoot 300 BLK.

I've thought about that but heard it's quite a bit louder than the RC. Is that accurate? The versatility would be great to have.

Where are all the FDE RC2's at :( Both my main locations, Silencershop and Capitol armory are OOS and the amount people want to charge in San Antonio for a transfer is stupid..

Ha, all good dude. Just ordered one from another dealer... just hope its a 2016 or newer model. Would like a 2017 to beat up and see how it does. Here at Campbell the weather has been nuts with huge swings. Would like to take it out and see how it does on the SCAR and Mod 0.

I opted for the Specwar 556 ($500 OTD locally) and I can say it's a phenomenal can, I'm sure the K model is similar but louder given its shorter length. The SWR/SilencerCo ASR cans won't snug up to the Mk18 rail like the Surefire cans but I believe they're quieter and, well, much cheaper.

I would assume Optics Planet would have them although I haven't checked. I know they're shady as fuck but I didn't have any issues when I ordered an EXPS from them. They did drop ship it tho

Ugh, so I went to go check out and it was backordered... you must have beat me to it...
