I'm going to have to do something about the buttpad on the LMT SOPMOD.  They list for about $15 from B5 Systems, but God knows how much these will cost in Canada, if I can get them all all.  Then I have to figure out how to get the buttpad off, lol!

That's it for now.

I have however been entertaining the idea of doing up a Block II build for a while now.  It's just such a costly build that I've never seriously looked into it.  I think if I do go that route, I may have to compromise a lot more than with my Mk12 build, for instance, the PEQ15.

For my personal requirements, it has no use whatsoever because first, I don't have NVGs, and second, even if I did, there's no place around here for me to run them (local ranges don't have night shoots, and as far as I know, there aren't any matches held at night).  Though it does look cool having all that stuff bolted onto the front end of a very short rifle, I may look into getting an Airsoft clone just for pics (lol, like my fake suppresors).

Anyway, I may or may not have taken the first step down a very dark path and I pray my wife never finds out, or that I come to my senses and start doing the math on how much this could possibly cost me (even without a real PEQ 15).

Mk8 is somewhat right too. That is what you are seeing a lot of in the wild but G has that new SMR Mk16 that is not technically out yet. It's basically the same as the Mk14 (slim) but instead of having MLok at the 2, 6 and 9 positions, it's got it EVERYWHERE... 1:30, 3, 4:30, 6, 7:30, 9 and 10:30 positions.

I spoke to someone I know at G after the pictures leaked from that Mil test one of the guys here in the thread was at and he did not deny its a thing and they have a contract for them. If I remember right its a 10 inch and 13.5 inch rails? Dude works there and said he can't even get one and no one probably will for a solid year or so which is disappointing because that was why I passed on the MK13 and 14, no MLok in the offset 1:30 position like the Mk8 has :(

Side note, the ones being tested and  I guess fielded when delivery happens will be black in color.

Probably 13.5" and 9.5" for use with a 14.5" and 10.3" barrel. I'd have picked a 13.75" rail for the 14.5" barrel but it seems Geissele likes to keep them in increments of 1/2". Fun fact, the M4A1 RIS II is the length it is so it would fit behind a rifle length FSB.

The MK16 one with M-LOK on all sides other than the top is way better than the M14 but I think the old style set screw anti rotation tabs are better. Not sure why they wouldn't go with DDC.

Thanks for the good word, looks like a Geissele Charging Handle as well.

Maybe they'll go with black for consistency, concern over variation with DDC? Seems like Geissele DDC has much more variation than DD FDE.

Anyone want to trade an EXPS3-0 for a COMPM4 plus cash or M620U?

Yes, as stated above it's the Insight M3X riser. Works well for me under NODS and my giant cereal box head. Can contact Insight if you're looking for one.

I'd love to see that fully painted and with a CAR stock. Really well done.

Is optics planet with a discount still the best place to source a new EXPS3 these days? I feel like that was the spot that used to be passed around the most.

Thanks for the word on that riser. Fingers crossed it's cheaper than the Wilcox

Just like if it's not issued to you by Uncle Sam it isn't either.

But it's a clone thread. By definition in order to be a clone it needs to look the same. That's it. Not, "has all the parts but lower or else we will have a hissy fit" So if it looks the same it's a clone and should be allowed.

*definition of clone took straight from Merriam-Webster

Hey, thanks for the info.  I thought I was losing my mind with the tab thing.

Actually, some of the misinformation about the RIS and RAS was my fault.  Here's a top view of the rail I have on there now (missing a screw, but still tight).

I had another rail on there for a while that was even numbers, and that is the one in the first pic of my post

Still have lots to learn about this build.

Here's a top view of my rail, again, due to someone misinforming me, I thought this whole time I had the RIS simpky because the markings were odd numbers.

Funny,  I saw many issued M4's with that tab sticking out.  It is sticking out because someone did not know how to install the rail correctly.  I had to fix my own issued M4 because mine had the same problem. Usually that is an armorer job but because I had installed my own on my personal M4gery.  That tab tucks under the HG retainer cap.

On the RIS, the front tab goes on top of the hand guard cap and tightens against it. On the RAS the spring loaded tab goes in the handguard cap and you tighten a clamp on the rear against the barrel nut. The RAS is a more solid design.

I'm not surprised.  There's a "weapons tech" at my unit that has no clue how to take down an AR beyond the field strip.  He's detailed strip a  C7 once, and that was during training, but that's about it.

He spent the first two years of his career fixing lanterns and mobile kitchens, but we're reservists, so I'm not sure how the full time guys progress in their training.

That being said, we have some very competent weapons techs as well, who actually enjoy their trade and know their stuff.

Anyway, thanks all for the info.

I was one of the people that got caught up in that debacle. That being said... I would probably pull the trigger on one of their RC's. A bunch of people have been buying them and receiving them without issue. It seems that AU learned from their last mistake and will take them out of stock when they have none left.
