Maybe not as fun as Building Homemade Guns, but I'm a bit of a tool whore. Working on tools makes each day in the shop better.

I needed to polish a rusted recoil buffer tube on an 1187. At about the same time, I needed to polish the bore of a Homemade 9mm barrel. This works surprisingly well. Need to make a few more attachments now.

I'm terrible at taking progress pictures. Rough scratch on Scrap material to very next pic is "finished" product in action. Not pretty, but it works.

My center fits directly into the spindle without a chuck. |

My center goes in the spindle, but I can leave the 3 jaw chuck mounted. And the jaws on the chuck make good drive points for the dogs.

Maybe I should start a new thread for the DIY guns. I still get a million questions and comments on these guns so I made a couple of videos showing the ones I have so far. Need to build some more!

Still making dumb stuff in the garage...
I've had great success with 22lr barrels, but mixed results with larger calibers. Mostly 9mm. This is only the third .32 "barrel" I rifled. So far, all three have been successful. Finally made some build progress after weeks of printing parts. Until this video, I'd only shot 2 or 3 mags of 3 shots each. Lots of "tuning" to do with the bolt weight and springs, but it's pretty close.

But I was testing the bolt more than the magazine feed here. I'll run it through it's paces over the next 2-3 days. ETA non-printed parts are AR FCG, recoil and mag release springs, DIY firing pin, barrel liner, bunch of screws. That's it. |

Not sure if this stuff will interest anyone here, but I've always wanted to get set up for casting brass. While I'm no where near achieving that goal, it's good to have friends with capabilities. While golfing, we got to talking about machining club faces and making our own putters. Well one guy was motivated, I have mills, and the other guy says, you know I work at a foundry right? A week later we have 3 rough castings, a few hours after I see them I'm 75% of the way through machining the out first putter.

I'm looking into buying a mill from LMS. Would you suggest the 4190 which is basically a 3990 with DRO and some other addons OR the larger 6750 (again basically a 6500 with DRO)? The 6750 is going to cost an extra $1000 but it is a larger mill.

I paid almost $1000 less than that for my Bridgeport from a local tool & die shop that was closing up. Larger machines can be had cheaper sometimes just because the market is smaller for them....size and weight can be a big deterrent to people. |
