Newbie here...well, not exactly. I'm 70 years old but this is my first Post on this Forum. Although I have several "sporting rifles" and an SBR, I've never built one so that's my project for the next month or so. I decided I wanted an AR pistol in .300 AAC (Blackout) for home defense and SUV travel. I started with a PSA upper with 8" bbl. that I got from my son, which now has a BCM BCG (Carpenter C158 bolt) and charging handle. It also now wears a Tacstar 10" carbon fiber hand guard. I just ordered a PSA complete lower (Christmas Special pricing) and it will be at my FFL in a few days. I'll be adding some short M-lok rails, Magpul iron sights, angled hand stop grip, and a couple of .300 AAC magazines. I am now searching for a budget priced direct attachment suppressor, e.g. Otter Creek Polonium 30, Aero Precision Lahar 30/30K, or Dead Air Nomad 30. Unfortunately it's the Holiday season and most suppressors are Out of Stock. Luckily my son manages a local gun store so he will continue to check availability with his distributors. My pistol will be a "pinto", with a combination of black and FDE hardware. I'll most likely be adding a weapon light and sling down the road. I do like iron sights for close encounters, but I have some Red Dot scopes that I can mount. That's where I am today. I'll attach some photos whenever I figure out how. |

Finished my build and added a Silencerco Omega 300 suppressor. Only took a couple of days for the ATF to approve my Form 4. The only real struggle I had with this build was with removing the buffer tube to replace the receiver plate with a Magpul ASAP QD mount. Palmetto State had double staked the plate to the castle nut, and they did a really good job! I could not break the stakes loose, and finally brought out the Dremel tool and small bit to remove enough metal to allow me to get the castle nut loose. I was able to save and clean up the castle nut, and re-install it with the new Magpul ASAP mount. I re-staked the castle nut, following Brownell's instructions on YouTube. I do have a couple of red dot scopes if I decide to mount one, but for my purposes the Magpul pop-up sights should work just fine. Enjoy! https://imgur.com/gUfFdSk  |

Finished up the build by adding an HRF magwell (FDE) and a ".300 BLK" ejection port dust cover from RightToBearArms.com. Didn't want anyone to try to shoot .223/5.56 in this baby! I think I'm done building for awhile. https://imgur.com/a/IIiOVeN |

Looks great! I got rid of all the angled grips on the handguards after switching to a c-clamp style forward grip. More comfortable and better control of the firearm. It's still cramped with only a 7" handguard, but feels better to me than the angle grip. Just food for thought... If you decide to move forward with a light, there's a remote switch that can mount on top of the handguard. C-clamp grip locates your thumb in a right place to trigger that switch. The light does add weight that might not be desired. The light will silhouette your iron sights at night so you can get a sight picture. |
