Hello everyone! I’m looking to bulld my first AR rifle. I have a concept but need some advice from more experienced builders on the best path to bring my idea to life. As you can tell by my username, I want to build a custom rifle after the Master Chief from the game Halo. I don’t want to bulld an exact replica of a in-game weapon or prop. I want to build a custom AR that embodies the Master Chief with the technology and materials available to me today. If it was the year 2552, things would be different. The concept: A AR cerakoted in OD green with a gold barrel and a custom handguard from Unique Ar’s. Caliber is 6.5 creedmoor. Custom deep laser engraving. My concerns are parts availability and customization options given my choice in caliber and customization. |

| Brainstorm from the start all over again. That is a terrible idea, which will likely cost you a lot of money, while resulting in a shitty rifle that will get many laughs at any serious range. RSOs will probably watch you extra extra close. Go back to square one. Based on the username, many might think of a phalanx, speer, and shield rather than Halo. |

Build what you want. OD green ARs are sexy, and if you don't like the gold barrel later you can always paint it black. Them handguards, tho.....  At least they can be swapped out easily, and it wouldn't be the most expensive regrettable choice that anyone's ever made when building their first AR. 😶 Just teasing you. Build what you want. It sure as heck won't be your last.

I would never have associated that username with Halo? Is their actually a connection? No, don't explain. Just understand that the rest of the world isn't always into the niche things you are and, it appears, you may be assuming they know things they don't. As to your build. 6.5 Creedmoor is an AR-10 build. Unlike an AR-15, there are going to be additional compatibility issues of parts to worry about. There are multiple rail heights, two different receiver standards, and potential differences in gas system length. Here's a good article as a starting point. There are a few offerings out there that don't follow that chart (for example Stag Arms receivers) exactly. |

I was hoping someone here would be into halo. I won’t explain the whole lore but the games main character is the Master Chief. He’s the main super solder among other super solders that saved the whole galaxy. I’ve seen a few custom halo guns and figured it would be super cool to have my own as a fan of the franchise and my nerdy thoughts started running wild. I am considering 6.5 creedmoor because the character is a 1000lb genetically altered super solider. Basically a walking tank. .223/5.56 felt “wimpy”. However, when it comes to practicality I wanted to see what my options are with a AR-15 vs AR-10 before I start ordering parts. Unless there are other companies that can machine a custom hand guard, Unique seems like the only option. I’d like to have them make one. I don’t care if it’s “pleb”. Has anyone ever bought a handguard front them? If gotta go with a .223/5.56 to complete my vision then so be it. I’m considering Aero billet receivers but it seems they’re going through a major company restructuring. I hear so many other companies are merging or closing down. What companies make stripped billet receivers? What is considered the Hi-Point of receivers and what’s is quality? I want a billet receiver so I can deep laser engrave the triangle pattern of the Battle Rifle aka BR55. I want OD green Cerakote to match the Master Cheif’s armor and a gold barrel to be a nod to his visor. If y’all don’t know who the Master Cheif is just Google it so you can understand what I’m doing. |
