Has anyone tried this yet?

Odin Works AR9 FRT Buffer

I’ve had no luck getting any of my 3-position FRTs to run reliably in my blowback 9mm PCC SBR. I’ve tried a LOT of different combinations of FRT, trigger, bolt weight and buffer. Not sure I want invest in snake oil so I’m hoping someone can give this a thumbs up/down.

I'm still a 'lil salty 'bout Odin's Heavy Adjustables.  I don't know anyone that solved a bounce problem with that buffer.  But, I know several, including myself, that ending up paying Odin for all the grief trying to run their "Heavy" adjustable.

My 9mm blowbacks run with @blowback9 's GRS, and with 10.5 and 10oz aluminum buffers with sliding Tungsten.

Yes, the GRS is pricey to put together.  But I'm swapping another to this system to land at 2x GRS and 1x 10.5oz.

Disclosure, I like Odin - run their goofy stock design on two different Kel Tec Sub guns.  And, their "Light" buffer body runs gas ARs fine when filled with Tungsten weights.

Odin appears to have deconstructed and reengineered @TonyRumore 's Tromix Buffers.  Tony is about to release his 9mm - I'd ride that horse before relying on Odin to solve a Heavy Deadblow problem.  It may run, but I'm done volunteering as a tester for Team Odin.

So a 10oz buffer with four tungsten weights won't fix your problem?

I wish manufacturer's would spec-out sliding weight versus total buffer weight, especially when talking full auto or RRT use.
8.6oz total weight means absolutely nothing when it comes to bolt bounce.  That could be great or it could be complete shit.
When you buy a Tromix buffer, you know what you're getting.  Every buffer has the sliding and total weight number spec'd out, as it should be.

If it doesn't, add a Tubb 300 BO lightweight flat wire spring to the 10 oz. buffer (with four 1-1/2 oz. tungsten weights inside).

Bet that solves the puzzle for you!

Maybe, but I’m getting a little jaded by everyone’s “sure fire, guaranteed to work” recipe for success. It could be this particular combination of lower, upper, barrel and bolt that’s the problem. I have several other 9mm PCCs that work fine with FRTs, so I’m not prioritizing this one. Probably best to set it aside and come back to it later with fresh eyes (or when Tony’s new buffer becomes available).

I'll buy that for a dollar.  I don't see any of that info posted to this thread, and I don't have the brainpower to recall details posted previously.

My comment regarding Odin's offering stands.  Everything Tromix has sold me has solved the problem my purchase targeted.  Much as I like Odin - their marketing team caught me with their "Heavy" buffer/adjustable paper weight.

Just a lurker here who has multiple fully functioning SS and FRTs - in .22 (well, mostly fully  functioning..), 5.56 and 300BLK but no 9mm blowback AR9.  I've however RO'd at my club multiple members with AR9s and watched the failures and the out of battery detonations.

Why aren't AR9 users looking at what Colt used for the 635?  I've shot several of them and they operate.  What's the issue with not just duplicating exactly what Colt did?

I see that. Can I assume the cap screw head never protrudes beyond the face of the buffer head?

Interesting you bring that up. I have a factory Colt SMG upper and it will not run with a partisan FRT as the hammer isn’t getting pushed down far enough on the recoil stroke in FRT mode. Instead it’s exhibiting hammer follow so OOB detonation risk. 9mm bolts and 5.56 carriers seem to show enough differences that FRT’s that are designed around 5.56 are not working reliably with the AR9 platform. It would appear the AR9 needs FRT with a taller hammer to correct the reset and hammer follow issues. Only then can you optimise the buffer to eliminate bolt bounce.

This is a more expensive option, but I had success using the Maxim Defense bearing delayed buffer. It slowed the ROF and really improved how the recoil impulse felt. Maxim Buffer

Correct.  The 9mm buffer has a deeper counter-bore for the screw head, so it can be used with solid-back bolt carriers.

I strongly disagree.  You describe experience with Colt SMG upper and project that experience onto the rest of us with SA uppers.

My Disruptor works a treat with a PSA upper.  My Arizona Regulator works a treat with a H&R DOE clone.  Bout to pair a MARC plus G$ SSAeX with a FM9 upper/Poverty Pony lower which previously ran the Disruptor.

The OOB Detonation risk you describe is REAL.  The Disruptor's OOB safety is the reason I ran it first in my 9mms.  Thankfully, all the hammers I have tried have worked fine.  Your SMG is the oddball at this party.

Be careful.  Maxim Defense is super clear that their RDB is not full auto rated.  I tried it too.  My experience was very different though.  It produced the single highest rate of fire I've experienced with my 9mm Autoresetters.  I also broke my FM9 forward charging handle just trying to charge the bolt against the roller bearings.

I am thinking you figured a way to add mass netting a slower rate of fire.  Mine was specifically too fast for my comfort.

How about an OOB detonation with a Disruptor in a totally different platform on a buddy’s PCC? He caught frag to the face and hand (it failed a safety check when I looked at it post OOB incident).
Of the handful of Disruptors I’ve tried across multiple PCC’s, none of them have passed safety checks in 9mm. I’m not the only person seeing this. The same Disruptors will pass safety checks with a 5.56 BCG. That is a clue to the issue IMO.

I’m glad the Disruptors have been working in other’s PCC’s. That gives me hope the issues are fixable.

I will add that to their credit, Triggered have been very responsive.

It reminds me of an AAC Rate Reduction Buffer. Hope it drops the insane ROF, of the blowback AR-9's

Try a Spikes powdered Tungsten buffer before you go blowing a lot of coin. They make an H1, 2, 3 weight.
