Bottom one is 13.9 Triarc barrel. I like 12.5 more to be honest

@DoctorLove Is that the 2.5-10 GLX from Primary Arms?  If so, how do you like it?

I have it on a 16” 308 and it is perfect. I had a Trijicon Credo 2-10 on there before and the PA is a better optic in my view

That Sig SRD is my favorite can. The level of sound suppression from such a small package and the QD is a brilliant design — just wish is wasn't proprietary.

Here is my Mini Recce Carbine:
-Colt Upper/Lower
-14.5" barrel
-Geissele MK4 Rail & SSA trigger
-VLTOR A5H2
-LMT Enhanced BCG
-Magpul CTR with Larue RISR
-Surefire closed-tine Warcomp & RC suppressor
-L3 NGAL
-Surefire Scout on Arisaka mount
-Nightforce NX8 in Geissele mount with RMR06 on Reptilia offset adapter
-Ridgeline sling with built in rear monopod and belt attachment

The use of the standard weight barrel with NGAL, 3V Scout, and NX8 shaves off some ounces. I can still shoot just over MOA groups with Mk262.
I only add the Harris bipod for long term static use.
The extra length from the A5 and extended buttpad give me optimal LOP.
The RMR gives me passive and backup aiming.
The Magpul rubber rail covers on the side of the rail interface and lock in well with the HOG saddle for tripod work.
The Geissele rail covers grip barricades and my Gamechanger bag very well.
Attachment Attached File

I really like the NX8. What it offers in this role compared with it's size/weight is impressive. The tight eyebox is overstated and is probably more of an issue for those who don't have their rifle setup properly for length of pull, eye relief, and cheekweld. (It also prevents some of the parallax errors you can induce with LPVOs with generous eyeboxes.) I don't feel that the large dot on the NX8 is a limiting factor for distance shooting because you should be using the mil scale anyway.

I did find zeroing at 100 yards to be a pain on a B8 or a typical scope target due to the reticle geometry, so I made my own. It has a large box which sits around the dot and inside the circle and .2 mil grid lines to match the turrets. The target also works well for mapping shifts with suppressors, in-line NVDs, or ammunition changes.

I like the small profile, light weight, power and clean illuminator. The MAWL switchology is faster when transitioning different distances and lighting conditions, but there is a weight penalty. For this type of build, NGAL all the way.

Hi all,

long time lurker here. Wondered if you could help me with source more pics of the following mini recce rifle:

https://medicsf.tumblr.com/post/673299104718372864

german forum that still hosts the original series in its entirety

I remember coming across this pic years back with a caption something along the lines of
¨CQBSS, Larue upper (see the beefed up dust cover spring housing), QD suppressor.. its like a Frankenstein of a recce rifle.¨

Now I´ve developed a rather embarrassing soft spot for it, having come across no rifle more ally, in all the years. I´d like to know if anyone has ever seen any more pics of this rifle? DVID, google, the forums all searched but no joy.... but would like to start building this one seeing that the funds are there.

(Lastly, Apologies if not the correct thread, after going through a bunch this seemed the best place to ask... Also photobucket is a pain in the ass, Id first have to remove 4000 pics before I can host again... grr)

The parts I can make out with some level of clarity: Knights suppressor, LaRue or DD Omega handguard, Leupold glass (not sure model), car stock. Tough to make out the receivers.

Cheers…!

I understood that’s it’s a CQBSS but haven’t had it confirmed.

Handguard appears to be LaRue going by the D ring and location of QD sling swivel. Just hard to make out the length…

If I had to guess, I’d say 10 inches on the handguard. With an 11 ribbed KAC panel inserted from the front, my 9” Larue HG has three rails before the wd socket. Looks like he has 5 remaining.

Eta: maybe not, it looks like that rail panel may be pushed further back, exposing the pic rails at the end of the HD.

Hell yes.  I did that for a summer with my CQBR upper, but it was while my can was still in jail so it wasn't nearly as fun, especially with an .080" gas port!

My mini is getting a new muzzle device. Pin is fabricated and will be welded up on Monday morning before work. Barrel is a Daniel Defense 14” 1/7 in an lwrc ic-di upper. Might not be the prettiest thing, but it is handy and tough.

Im wondering someone knows the guy…I mean building own Frankenstein recce rifle means you have a stronger than average affiliation with firearms and armatures in particular and would either be a member here or knows a member…Maybe Stuka can point us in the right direction…?

I think he's talking about the barrel length. A 13.2 rail on a 14.5 barrel is kind of a "standard" setup.

Going to build a flush-fit mini with an AEM5. Will the gas block of a mid-length gas system fit entirely under a KAC Medium FF RAS, or should I go with carbine length?

Barely. You won’t have room for a collar w/ a mid length tho. You’ll have to use a tapered gas block w/ a mid length or go carbine.

What do I need to accomplish this?  I have one of those Allgheny tapered gas blocks.

That barrel is 11.3?  Then just an ops collar?  Midlength FF ras?

I had pretty much the same setup in 6.5 Grendel at one point.

If I'm not mistaken, the barrel was a little over 13" with the Spikes tapered gas block and Midlength FF RAS.

I also think my rail had to be trimmed slightly at the front so there was no contact with the can.

@m1afan1000 this is all correct. Barrel is 13.1 with the AEM5. I believe the Allegheny tapered blocks are a skosh longer OAL than the Spike’s ones so you won’t need to trim a midlength RAS but don’t quote me on that. Check their Instagram to confirm.

I just got my AEM3 approved for this rig and got a new barrel to fit it. If you’re interested in the one pictured above shoot me a message.

Such a great concept, we finally have precision rifles for the little ones.

My 10yr old shooting at 200 with a 12” mini.    He was getting hits at 300 as well but those were 50/50 at best.

Question for Mini Reecers using Atlas Bipods...

I am wanting to start using a Atlas PSR on my 11.5 SBR/LPVO with Mlok rail.

How many slots of pic rail do I need for good attachment of the atlas adm mount?

Is a 3 slot enough? Or do I need 4/5?

I had one on a 16” 308 bolt gun and it was a pretty nice magnification for the ranges I was comfortable with that rifle.  I see no reason you could do a 13.9”-14.5” mini recce with that scope and it look/function well.  Especially with an offset red dot…

I may do another upper in that configuration. I have an Arisaka offset mount and an RMR. First I'm trying it on my 20"upper. Later it may go on another setup. Got me thinking now.

The adm mount interfaces with a single lug running through the pic rail so I'd imagine you could get away with 3 slots.

3 slots. If your low on rail space ditch a VFG and mount the bipod about 3-4 slots back. When your not prone, lock the legs back and use the base as a VFG.
