Got my new build out for a bit.
AP m4e1 cerakote builders kit from brownells
16" BA mid weight 1 in8"
Total weight with the 4.5-14vx3 under 8.5lbs
Attachment Attached File

Very happy with the mid-weight BA barrel @100yds.  Looking forward to stretching it to 500 and trying some handloads soon.
Attachment Attached File

10rds into about 3/4.  Seven into sub 1/2".
Only 30 rds through it so far, so it should settle down a bit.  Not bad for under $900

So what barrel is everyone using for their 15.1 NSW Recce? Also who is doing the reprofiling?  Want this thing done right if I’m gonna go for it.

Debating on NF NX8 or the OG 2.5-10x24...

It's a lone star ordnance stowaway 2, it's a discontinued grip but they pop up on the ee from time to time.

Cut to 15.47. Step for collar. OPS INC 12th model can.

Edit: I meant to tell you if you don't want the extra cost or SBR you can go with a Douglas Recon 16.1 and if you use a long collar you'll have somewhere around a quarter inch of barrel showing from the rail to the back of the collar. That is if you're using a KAC long RAS. If you're not running the 12th model or AEM then the barrels above and however you're wanting to set it up.

Thanks for the info. It’ll be on my SBR Colt Lower. Short collar I assume then? I just assumed it was 15.1. Good to know it’s 15.47.

Just send it to Adco and have them fit everything based off your components. They can also do the barrel re-profile.

I actually need to thank you because you motivated me to get off my rear end. Below is a mock up for you. This is a Douglas 16.1 recon from CLE. I was originally going with the 15.47 and said screw it that it's a lot of additional cost for a half an inch. ( read buy more ammo) Anyhow, long collar and short collar with measurements. If you're using a short collar then I recommend just subtracting the measurement and verifying your OAL and gas port location relative to which gas system you want to use. I started the tape measure at 1 inch at the edge of the handguard because the tape measure tab covered up the reading for the short collar only.  The distance is less than an inch.

Just my 2 cents. I'll obviously be painting the barrel.

Short collar

Long collar

Also the "specs" are honestly like chasing a Colt 727. A1 lower stamped A2, A1 upper, A2 upper, mix match of barrel profiles...etc....etc.
They have ranged from 13.something to 16.44 (don't ask). I can surely appreciate you wanting to get it right but I guess what I'm saying is don't drive yourself crazy over it like I have chasing the rabbit.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Lol, or what he said.

But.....if you send to ADCO, be specific. If you want a long collar then specify or you may end up with a short collar and vice versa.

Because I don't usually dial but use reticle hold overs. According to the literature, both win/elev is waterproof and can be used without these caps if I so choose to dial. There are zero stops. So, it's the best of both world.

Even with zero stops, I prefer capped turrets on a gun that will see movement over distance.

When I did my build I actually ordered two of everything and built one with my younger cousin, his first AR.  His shoots as good as mine.
He was strictly bolt action before, he's all about the AR now.
Feels good to draw another one to the Dark Side

Yeah, but I'm sure no one is balking at it.  You got all the good stuff and I'm jealous.     Nice build.  Is that G mount higher than typical?  Seems like it.

I saw a couple of NF scopes like yours in the EE and it was the first time I lusted after one.  Somebody was selling one for 830 or so because it had some wear on it.....  I still will probably never be able to afford it, but it looked whole lot better price wise than a new one......

As I had said, I ended up going with the 16.1 recon but Frank was going to spin me a 15.x barrel and was absolutely fantastic in discussions and prep to ensure they got me exactly what I needed. In fact we talked enough times that I'm certain if you mentioned me he would be able to pick right up where we left off.

I don't say this lightly but I will guarantee they'll do a great job. (No I do not work there, never have and my only affiliation is as a satisfied customer)

I can show you a pic of my 16.1 which is the same one I posted pics of with the short and long collars if you want me to?

Did an update to my Savage MSR 15 recon I swapped the Holosun 503gu for an Athlon Optics Talos 1-4 btr that was on my blackout. I am converting the blackout to grendel so I wanted to make use of this scope and the recon looked like a good fit

Going to the range tomorrow will zero it on the 100 yard then try my hand at 500 yards.  With my other Recce build that has a 2.5-10x 500 yards is cake the 1-4x should be interesting.

The optic I actually got for 149 from optics planet and compared to the PA 1-6 it is about the same quality wise. the brightness isnt very bright in daylight  but the reticle is etched and works fine. This has a mil based reticle which I originally chose for my blackout but wasn't sure i was keeping the blackout so I didn't want a dedicated optic so now I can swap it to other rifles

Well I can connect at 400 yard no problem  on 18x30 ipsc steel targets but not so much at 500 with the 1-4.

My Aero Precision Recce with a Bushnell Engage 2.5-10x 500 yards is no problem.  Next time I hope to get on the 1000 yard range as they have targets that start at 600 on out to 1k
