This site and these pic threads are so bad for my credit card debt. They raised my limit Monday, so I had to order a BCM Recce Upper.

I dont think I have posted a pic of my new RECCE in here yet. I did post way back in this thread with a carbine I really loved and one that shot phenomenally. I regretted selling it as soon as I let it go. It wasnt a "real" RECCE per say, but it was a well modded RECCE rifle from Noveske.

Here it is-

It was a dandy for sure, ran flawlessly and would routinely ring my 45% IPSC steel out to 600 yards. Really was just a shooter.

Ever since I got rid of it, I wanted another semi 5.56 that could perform like that. But I was hoping to go with something more along the lines of a "correct" RECCE. After some reading, I found a company called High Caliber Sales. Kevin O'neill is the owner and a fine gentleman. He nd a gentleman by the name of AJ (IIRC) decided to go into business specializing in some of the SpecOps guns built by Crane. AJ has been involved with several of the requested builds built by Crane for a long time in various capacities. Including the original request that led to what we call the RECCE today. There are tons of companies putting out carbines under the RECCE moniker. But from what I read High Caliber Sales is the company that builds the actual uppers and rifles that were issued as RECCE's. Same barrels, one of the same smiths and the same gear on which they were built. So, I think it is as authentic as I could get.

So far the carbine has performed great and seems to shoot better as the range is extended, which is basically what the operators wanted. I love RECCe's and think they may be the best all around version of the AR platform. Anyway, here are a couple crappy pictures. The one with the NF glass, obviously.

I like the FDE of the Noveske "recce" so much, that I think I am going to send this RECCE to my buddy Jeromy Holmes (Dimensions) for one of his custom paint jobs. I will let him do some of his amazing custom work on it, but it will be an FDE base and look similar to the Noveske I liked so much. If you get a sec, look up Kevin at High Caliber sales. It will be worth your time.

These new rail systems are really catching my attention on these rifles.  They look great and I imagine fit much better in hand

Recce. By several years. I started hearing about RECCEs in '04 or '05. While they may have been in planning and trials for a long time, you've only started to see Block 2s in the last couple years.

That's what I was thinking. I wish there was a good timeline of all the major variants from the M16 all the way to the current M4.

It's from Brownells. It works great for big hands. 3/4" space to the rear. I filled in the back strap where it meets the grip so there is no open space left. It is made of delrin plastic though,it would probably be OK ,but a machinist friend is going to duplicate it in alum. for me.

Ok, with all the interpretations and different tastes of what is or isn't a Recce rifle can someone post pics of true Recce rifles.

I would say the rifle right above your post is a perfect example.  Stainless steel barrel, free float handguard, magnified optic.

You'd have a better chance snatching a photo of a sasquatch holding dual HK's across the chest. Kick back and enjoy the catalog of fine and ever-capable accurized 16" AR15's.

Vortex Viper PST 1-4X24 and ADM Recon mount. Might put you a little over budget but will be a very nice setup and well worth the extra money.

Found mine is a LaRue mount used for 610 shipped. Just keep an eye out I think I saw one on the EE the other day.

Most recce guns do tend to be heavy. I don't find the little extra weight to be a problem as long as the gun balances well.
