I like the style of 3/4 prong style flash hiders and I need help on which to buy for my 5.56mm AR-15 rifle. But I have 1 very important requirement! I want something that does NOT ring like a damn tuning fork when you bump it on something or shoot it. That sound is beyond obnoxious. The problem is, I know some flash hiders lack this harmonic annoyance and others suffer from it. I'd like to not spend money on something I will hate. *Suppressor mount options is not a requirement. I have no idea what brand or model suppressor I will buy in the future, plus it's an additional cost for a feature I may never use. |

Rugged advertises their flash hiders as possessing "anti ring" technology. I have a couple and never noticed any ringing. Then again, not really testing them for that. The Rugged Dual Taper interface doesn't have a huge aftermarket though, so it would definitely limit options when you get into cans. If keeping options open for future can use is a concern, I'd probably look at the Plan B interface. KAK makes a couple prong-style flash hiders with a Plan B interface for reasonable prices ($65). No idea how they are for ringing though. |

I'm waiting for a Sig flash hider from the EE forums. It's cheap enough to try it. I've been able to "handle" one in person on a Sig rifle, the ring is there but it's not terrible. Definitely keeping other suggestions in mind for the future though. |

I’ve tried the Vortex in .22, .30, and .458 and all ring like a bell. I don’t care if they were the flavor of the month, they sucked. I’ve settled on the old military 3 prong on all three calibers and nary a ring. Good enough for me. I have several 3 prong from KAK and mil-surp units from Gun Parts Corp, and a .458 from Tromix. I don’t recall where I got the .30 cal though. |

You don’t notice the tuning fork if you just keep shooting. The FCD 3 prong design claims to not ring. They have an explanation on their website. I always enjoyed the ringing noise in the shooting bench. Always confused people and made them look around and check their electronic ear pro for the noise lol. |
I've never had an issue with the ringing sound that comes with pronged flash suppressors. I do notice it sometimes, but I've never been annoyed by it... I actually kind of like it.  .That being said, I only have three M16/A1-ish "clones" with the old style 3 prong flash suppressors and one other rifle with a Smith Enterprises G6A4. The rest of my rifles have A1 birdcage flash suppressors. |
