Even with how great the PMAG is... Magpul doesn't gouge the hell out of us for there magazine, despite the fact that if you want a PMAG there is but one choice.

Talk about high way robbery.

I'm not saying it's wrong... just saying it's a joke to charge that much for a USGI Mag on Steroids.

Wonder how long it tok surefire to get licensed by CALDOJ to manufacture "high capacity" magazines in the state? I know they have good lawyers, because they have no trouble getting their employees CCW permits.
Nothing in this post should be considered information posted in an official capacity. It is the authors personal opinion alone.

Mag pouches are already being made for the 60 rounders in Marpat Desert and Woodland with most being done in Coyote Tan and some in Navy AOR1 and AOR2.

I just made one for the 100 rounder in a horizintal position but it just doesn't work well unless you're Gumby.  I am having two stitched up now at the request of a Dilpomatic Security Agent overseas as a MOLLE pouch for the 100 rounder mounted to a padded backer with a cinch tight/releaseable sling to allow over the shoulder reloads a la "Book of Eli" deployment........not done seriously since it is a "Break Contact" mag, but it does look good for the Knob Creek Machinegun shoot.......definitely a as gas tube killer on the M4........should rock on the Marines new Squad Auto rifle if you don't have to go prone.

Please provide proof these will be made in California.  As I read the rule it is a felony to make a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds in California.

Also, I'm interested in the back story of you knowing they have good lawyers.

I would like a 60rd and a 100rd. Looks like they'll work in my E4. Beta-C don't..... The 60rd would make a nice break contact mag.

Like the 60 but wonder if it will function like a GI mag in FA mode (semi-reliable).

PMAG's and Beta's are the ticket for machine gun shooting with 100% reliability.

Also, I really like the fact that my Beta's can be stored, fully loaded, for months if not years...Will the Surefire mags be up for that?

My Beta's sit loaded at the ready...for just that they're hard to beat.

I dunno, seems great for 3-gunners & range time.......but being single fault tolerent to a mag failure when you're on a range that shoots back is something else to think about. For 60 rounds a redi-mag IMHO is better, a little practice and mag change time is minimal.

The 60 round mag looks ideal for 3-gun in the Tactical divisions. A 60-round capacity should be adequate in almost any match situation, and it looks like a good height for monopodding. In most stages this means 1-2 seconds saved by eliminating a reload vs. a pair of cinched 30s. In the context of all the other things we spend $$$ on, the price is not unreasonable (comparing with GI 30s is apples-and-oranges as they have HUGE economies of scale and no R&D/tooling amortization). I will buy a couple of the 60s when they become available.

The 100 round mag is, I suspect, oriented more towards military machinegunners. In 3-gun it is relatively rare to encounter a stage requiring more than 60 rounds with no place for a reload... if you are missing that much, eliminating a 2-second reload is not going to help . While a fully loaded 100 rounder will not weigh too much more than a Beta C mag (which has been used in 3-gun for years), it will have a greater moment of inertia due to how far it hangs from the rifle's center of gravity, and I suspect this will make the loaded rifle feel a bit unwieldy. The biggest downside for me is that it looks too long to comfortably monopod off of; this means Tactical division shooters will likely skip this mag. I think the Open division guys will also stick with their Beta C mags as they are likely to work better off a bipod (plus they presumably already have the sunk cost).

When I get my hands on a 60-rounder I'll have a better feel for how it monopods. If it's a bit short, I might go for a 100-rounder and cut it down to the ideal monopod height... a monopoddable 80-round magazine might be cool

My beta C stays home a lot anymore.  I see a lot of MD putting in reloads or just flat out saying no betas except in open.   I dont have a problem with it as other higher cap mags are still good to go.

That drive me crazy when they change the rules and make my +$200 purchase a waste of money unless I shoot open.  I hope they don't ban quad stacks in tac after a bunch of people buy these.

this is how I got my other higher capacity magazines. the DPMS while ugly runs fine with 45 rounds in a mag. the Lancer need a few cycles of ammo to run 100%, but the cost was great free (well if you add match fee and ammo it is the most expensive magazine I own).

Well no reload time beats the fastests reload in the world. I can reload my AR in 1.5 to 2 seconds using two P mags in a Firebird coupler and with a BAD lever. But I can put about 6 rounds down range in that amount of time as well. If these mags prove reliable I will be using them.

Doubt. I had a 5.45 AR once.

Some people get caught up on the followers, but it's the ribs of the mag as well, because 5.56 and 5.45 are different shapes.

Exactly! I can do 2 - 2.5 secs reload from belt pouch but on a running-gunning stage, that would cost me at least 5 positions on the stage so no one is doing a 'static reload' anymore Yes, $120 retail would be a big hole in my pocket, but hey, only need to do it once Bring on the 60 !

After the killings in Arizona, I'm sure the prices on 'super high capacity' mags are going to skyrocket when legislation is introduced and passed. I believe that Surefire will have a hard time filling orders IF these mags actually work reliably. Just remember how some paid $70+ for the HK mags when they first appeared. And they are still fetching $30-$40 each.

Dude Arizona is one of the most pro gun states in the country no magazine bans are going to get passed. The Sky is not falling Chicken Little. I absolutely hate it when people over react. Yes its not a good thing for gun owners but there is no way they will get the momentum needed to pass gun control laws right now.

Said the USMC was testing them, and requested more 100-rounders than 60-rounders....so I'm thinking they like both.
