Perhaps I should clarify.

I have not seen any in stock.

I visited sc-texas yesterday to meet his 2nd boy who was born last friday and he had two demo units on his desk to go with the one in his videos.

Hope that clarifies.

While it looks great and seems well made (as most of Surefires stuff is), I have always felt Surefire is nonetheless a bit overpriced.

And that although a KCI drum is roughly 40 bucks cheaper than the 100 round Surefire, they have a LOT of function issues, due to moving parts. The Beta Co drum is more reliable, however it costs roughly 50 to 75 bucks MORE than the Surefire mag, and STILL has more moving parts, leaving the opportunity for something to go wrong. The surefire mag, although long, fat, and (to some) ugly, and ungainly, SHOULD be more reliable, since all the rounds are going in a more or less straight line up and down, rather than twisting and turning, rotating, and then finally ending up in a feed tower. The surefire Mags don't require any lubricant, and appear, by design, to be FAR less prone to springs wearing out.
I plan on buying a few once they are released, for use with my SlideFire bumpstock.

I hate how everybody whines about price when a new product comes out. How the fuck else do you expect a company to pay for the initial costs of producing it? Isn't this America? Why would they make something, and then sell it at a loss?

If you can't afford it, fine. If you don't think you have a use for it, fine. Hell, if you think it isn't "tacticool" and looks ugly, fine. Just remember, this isn't GD, and a companies primary purpose, is to make the owner of the company money. If somebody else copies the design, or makes something equally reliable, for a lower price, GREAT, that's the market at work. Until then, though, this is what we've got to work with, take it or leave it. No need to dump on the company.

Sorry for the hijack.

Nice rant, but do you honestly think it requires surefire to spend $100 per mag?

These mags probably cost $50 max to make and probably less, so the price of them is a huge markup

Right now the Surefire quad-stack mag is the only game in town and they know it. They are going to milk it and us for every penny they can get. This is what Surefire does. Does Surefire make quality products? Yes they do.
Having said that, I will probably still buy one to check out.
Really wish Magpul would give them some competition.

Are they marked up? Sure. Will I still buy at least one to give it a go? Sure.  Do I wish Magpul would jump on something like this? You bet.  But I still don't see how we can complain abouta price of a magazine when a lot of us have thousands of $ invested in our rifles & ammo.  I mean how many of you guys buy name brand camo or clothes?  I'm pretty sure this mag will outlast those....

This. I also would not be surprised if some patents are involved, as this mag doesn't use rollers like other designs I have seen. Seven years for Surefire to make their investment back, I believe.

People will pay for what a market will bear. Thats how its always worked. Initial offering of the Apple iPhone for instance.  No other competitors so to speak that have a similar product and you are not under an obligation to buy anything you don't want due to costs. The company is offering a product for a price. You can take it or leave it. As a consumer it doesn't matter what it costs the manufacturer to produce it, only what the consumer is willing to pay. Its how free markets work.

Well, you could always start up your own company, hire all the people that you need, rent or buy a

building, get a benefits package together put some lawyers on the payroll for patent work and buy all

the machines you'll need and a production line to get the product built. Start with some R&D and get a engineer team to work out all the kinks in the system and then get yourself a marketing and sales team

I read somewhere that to develop a magazine from scratch runs over $500,000.00.

That is one hell of a lot of up front costs to recoup.

$129.00 for the 60 rounder isn't cheap, but I will pay it

There was a story that broke at the time of the 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban" about a company who had developed a working QUAD STACK magazine for STANAG 4179 weapons. They decided not to go into production because of the ban, they felt they couldn't cover their costs on military/LE sales alone. Without the civilian market it was DOA.

That ought to tell you something about the up front costs to bring a magazine to the market. I would imagine it costs Surefire less than $15.00 each to make them, but they won't show a profit on them for several years.

Hell I remember in the early 90's when the Beta C-Mag FIRST hit the market (They would ONLY sell to LE agencies LE price was $129.00) the going "street" price was $600.00 and no one complained.

Dispite of the price I still plan getting 15 of the 60 rounders.

I've got all the 30 rounders I will ever need plus 4 or 5 beta drums and a first generation 150 round Armatac mag.

I think the 60 rounders will go fine in with my collection.

I'll get a few of the 100 rounder when they come out.

YMMV

Overpriced according to whom?  Market decides the price.  If they cant sell enough product at a given price, they will lower it.  Is it a required purchase like food, or water?  No.

Think about it from their perspective:  If you aren't having any problems selling your product at the price you set it... why in the hell would you lower the price?  Especially if production cant meet demand?

Overpriced is a false term, there is no such thing.  "It costs too much in MY opinion" - that's the truth of it.

Easy to load and seats without a problem on a closed bolt.  I haven't been able to take it to the range yet.  I have noticed a significant rattle from rounds moving around inside when it's loaded and it doesn't drop free from the Spike's lower I tried it in.  I guess I'll decide after running some rounds through it if I really like it or not.

Probably downloaded out of habit and/or paranoia, or possibly to make it easier to seat on a closed bolt.

Loaded to 58rds to load on a closed chamber. Many instructors teach this. I am not one to question Mr. Vickers. At first they could only get about 52 rds in it, then I guess the springs kinda took a set was able to load up to 60 rds in it. But they ran it the two days with only 58 rds it it. Probably but about 500rds through the mag

I have been on the fence with the Beta C Mag since it is bulky and not very reliable for heavy use.  These 60 and 100 rounders would round out a loadout for someone in harms way.

1 60 rounder for initial contact and can swith to 30 rounders for reloads.

So the 60 rounder is about as long as a standard 40. This looks very practical.. The 100 rounder, maybe not so much..

I'd feel better if they were $25 less, but they'll probably come down after they've been out a while..

Forgive me if it's already been asked but is anyone making a speed loader for these yet?

We just got the 60's in. Asking for an ETA on the 100’s now.

5rd plunger style beta or beta clone loader, the all out best high capacity loading tool.  The 10rd stripper clip versions can break and the plunger is separate.
