I’m looking for a typical sling with QD’s on both ends, a bit of padding, and a quick length adjust slider. My unique requests are mostly based on poor grip with my left side. Which slings have the lowest force and easiest to grip slider? Also, I would like a little flex for when the adjustment isn’t perfect. Also, would like a captured slider. Ideally w/o any metal to prevent damage to my rifle. | Slings are stupid easy to make. Find one you like the looks of and order up the webbing, glides and adjusters on strapworks.com. for well under $10 you can have a working sling with webbing of your choosing. Don't even need a sewing machine. I switched to 1" tube polyester webbing. Rot resistant and feels like padded since it is doubled up. Comes in all kinds of colors and camos. |

If you feel that way, I suspect that you’re not valuing the true value of a well made sling. It really all starts with truly knowing how to run the gun. From what I see, most slings are not made from that viewpoint. Sure, the materials are simple, the manufacturing is simple, but knowing the how and why to make a sling that people will use and run hard is complex. Most sling makers seem to be making someone else’s design cheaper. I like the Adaptiv Defense sling. Lucas Botkin seems to know how to run a rifle. Many of the other folks seem to focus on swimming out, instead of running the sling! |

VTac aka Viking Tactics padded sling is my favorite, if you're going to be carrying the rifle for more than a few minutes at a time. For me, the Edgar Sherman (I have an unpadded one) is fine for a rifle that won't be carried for long periods, although I prefer the Proctor sling with the paracord attachments removed for that. It's a little simpler than the Sherman. Most slings suck for extended carrying, changing positions of the rifle, and making changes to the tension. You do not want any flex in the sling. You won't be able to get proper tension, and it will bounce around when you walk. |
