Here’s something you don’t see every day.
Came across the table at a gunshow this weekend.  Presumed a prototype of some sort.  If the barrel assembly isn’t strange enough. It has a odd rail too.
Screwed and pinned not part of the forging. Possibly pre M4, or they needed an extended pic rail for some reason.  All I know is that it is ugly, and heavy.
No baffles, or anything that reduces sound.. the barrel is solid inside the thick steel sleeve,  it does function like a krink though... kid said he put it on a pistol lower and ran it to see if it worked.. no problem ran great.

Looks like the old flat top conversion of an A1 upper.  In those days if you wanted a flat top this is how you did it.  Cut off the carry handle and screw/ pin/ epoxy any Weaver rail on top.

Around 6” counting the chamber. So ya about 4” of rifled Barrel.  Only about 1/2” of dwell ...the gas hole is huge. Like .20” huge!

Upper receiver is not out of the ordinary for period mods.

That barrel setup is crazy assed.

Integrally-suppressed shorty.  Fat tube covers the area between receiver face to first block.  Smaller diameter tube from block to end cap.

Is this an educated guess or have you seen one like this before?
I’m told it was some sort of prototype from Olympic Arms... they recently went OOB and were based about 15min away from the gunshow.
They were the first to come out with free float HGs, and AR pistols... so they were pretty active in R&D.

This. A number of folks were offering stuff like that before flat tops became the norm.

SSK Industries used to offer their "TSOB" carry handle conversion, but they used a specific height rail to go with their recommended Ultradot sight. This was also before RDS became universal. The Ultradot can't match the battery life of newer stuff but it's still a decent sight.

Setup gave a lower third co-witness with the remaining A1 rear sight.

The upper is an M16 carry handle version on the CLET gun. My understanding is they only made 20 or so too.  Here's the version I made.
