Feels so nice and compact with a Daniel Defense 10.3” barrel. I have a spare Colt upper, SOCOM barrel, BCG, and charging handle. Which one would you guys pick?

I prefer the MK14 personally because it feels less angular when gripping with my support hand. But I don't think you can go wrong with either.

After some long consideration, I decided I want another MK8 rail. I love mine, and it just feels right for me. I don’t know how much lighter you can get with the MK14 since the MK8 is damn near featherweight.

Quick question: I had a spare MK14 barrel nut and Geissele Supergas Block I bought as a back up, and I built an upper using the barrel nut thinking I was going to buy MK14 rail. Can I still use the MK8 rail with the MK14 barrel nut? I read somewhere that you could use the MK14 barrel nut with the MK4 and MK8, but cannot use the MK13 and MK14 rail MK4/MK8 barrel nut. Can someone chime in before I send the upper to John Thomas to get the gas block pinned and dimpled? I wasn’t buying the rail till next month

@veeklog - The mk4/mk8 has a 2 bolt straight through BBL nut. The mk13/14/16 has a 2 bolt offset w 1 bolt going straight through. You will not be able to use an mk8 rail w an mk14 bbl nut as it would need the rear bolt to go straight through and the mk14 bbl nut is only slotted with 1 groove.

If you really want the MK8, why settle for the MK14 just because you have an MK14 bbl nut... just take the MK14 bbl nut off and buy the MK8.
Can you not just get the GB pinned once you purchase the MK8... or does it have to be done now.

@SenditDoc I was going to buy the rail next month because I am leaving town next week for 45 days. Before I leave town, I am packaging everything to send to John Thomas to pin and dimple gas block. I might as well try the MK14 and see if I like the thinner rail. Thanks for all the help

While I’m definitely not deserving of it, it’s going to become my go-to gun for Cola War things. I think it’ll eventually get a Nightforce NX8 and some night time capability.
