Here's the latest incarnation of my XM177E2 clone.  I chopped off the bayo lug myself, and Randall cut and threaded the barrel (12.5") and permanently attached 45Bravo's moderator and grenade ring.

The next redux will probably be a correct A1 upper.  But that will be a while.

Got my lower back from SBR engraving

Bushmaster 1x9 16" barrel cut down to 13 or so inches but made to look like the 10". Thanks 45Bravo.
Government profile under the handguards.
Noveske SBR lower.

So far I like it but I'm thinking about putting an A2 upper on it instead of the A1.

+1  Sweet looking E1.  You just need a 20 round mag for your photos.

ETA: After looking again, I realized we can't see if there's a FA, so it could be just a 177.

Mine's an E2 11.5" barrel. I have a 30 rounder in there because I dont have the moderator on so I figured it looked better with a 30 round mag with the birdcage attached

Nice shorties there Dump - one question: In the second pic, the paracord is wrapped araound the barrel, not the FSB. Couldn't the barrel get hot enough to melt the nylon?

Dump, what scope do you have mounted on the second carbine?

I moved the cord to the front sight post after I took pics.  Don't know if it would melt?  The mount is a cheapy pro-mag available from Midway USA.

Here's my sorta retro shorty.   80% lower, M16 upper (no FA or deflector), 16" super light 1 in 9" barrel, A1 pistol grip, plastic stock, RRA 2-stage trigger, chrome notchless carrier, and a BM slipover hider.  Wow this thing is really light....5.9 lbs with an empty mag.

Made a short barrel, for the slick side upper that will be a 605.

What size gas port did you use?

I never could get one to work.  Especially below 40 degrees.

Didn't know they hade a problem below 40 degrees.

I could get about 95% reliability around 75 degrees, 100% reliability above 90 degrees.  As the temps went down, so did reliability.  Around the 40 degree mark it was 50/50 reliable...

Cut up three or four barrels trying different port sizes and never did end up with anything that I was happy with.

Maybe go with a mid-length gas port, hiding under the handguards...
I think CMMG sells a .625 low-profile gas block.
