Ultimate Training Munitions (UTM) training rounds in 5.56/223.
These require a special bolt so not to fire a real live round. For Force on Force training (means you shoot at one another) A 22 cal blank is set off sending a little plastic (or steel) ball forward. That strikes a pistol primer witch sends the actual projectile out at about 5 feet per second. At this point the case acts as a piston, expanding to allow the bolt to cycle for full auto training. The first on the left is a blank The second is a Man Marking Unit (MMU) There would be a waxy blue (or red) paint in tip with little stainless ball The next 2 are Reduced Ricochet Limited Penetration (RRLP) for paper punching. Heard they no longer make these. Not a true representation of powder, there was so little that I more than doubled it just for show. wolfganggross

The UTM ammo I have has a blue plastic tip, similar to the second from the left, though it shoots at 300 fps. Same bolt it seems.
