In case this helps any of you, if you have (or can source) an Aimpoint 7000 or 9000 that is a 2x model, the magnifier can be taken off.  I did it on my 7000sc-2x and it’s fine.  I had checked with aimpoint about this, and though it voids the warranty, it does work.

Could you post some pics of the parts for reference?

Yeah I’ll post one up tomorrow.  Basically you have to destroy the magnifier.  I put really low heat on the magnifier body near the aimpoint body and then grabbed the magnifier with some channel locks and it twisted off.  It’s threaded into the aimpoint.  Pretty simple and took all of 3 minutes.

Nevermind, I had a few extra minutes.  Here they are: (I don't have pics of the magnifier, as this was several years ago that I did this.  It was trashed)

I'll try to answer any questions I can.

(Ignore the Aimpont being turned 90 degrees the wrong way in the full pic, I was just mocking it up)

Thanks. I seem to recall another guy in this thread going over the magnifier and trying to figure out if it would have been available in Oct 1993. Some period pics showed it was likely in use at the time, if I remember correctly.

Got my barrel back from Retro Arms Works (great work) cut down to 12.7 to complete my Gordy build.  I bought the long Gordon collar from AE.  When installing the can, it appears the can is sitting on the collar, not the taper.  Upon investigating, the tapered sleeve will drop right into the can without stopping on the taper.  All three sleeves I received do this.  Are these out of spec, or am I doing something wrong?

EDIT:

Here are a picture of the sleeves I received (third is installed on the barrel with the muzzle device installed unfortunately):

After comparing the photos on AE's website, it's obvious the tapers are way too small.  What are these collars for then?

EDIT #2: It appears this was my mistake.  The M4 and AEM5 collars and cans use a different taper.  Hope AE can make a sleeve that works with the longer collar and AEM5.

I think I saw them get you sorted in the Ops/AE thread in the suppressor section... The exact opposite happened to me.  I got the AEM5 insert instead of the M4 insert.  Adco was unaware at the time that Ron was shipping both sizes, but were quick to swap out inserts. Quality people right there.

Yeah, they may have been.  I like it much more without it though.  It’s ever so slightly longer than the 5000s without the magnifier.

Got my brt gas tube installed last week.  Man that really helped my build.  My 12.5" Gordon was spitting brass around 1-2 o'clock.  Just way over gassed.   Now it's spitting brass around 3 o'clock and steel case around 4 o'clock.  It does cycle without the can but it kind of dribbles out.  I wouldn't rely on it fully working that way but I never intend to shoot the gun unsuppressed.

Little bit of shooting before the storm today. I really need to get an Aimpoint 9000SC..but it looks like those Springfield rings that look correct referenced a few pages back are always out of stock

Also likely going to switch to a 14.5 barrel and correct M4 can at some point

I know the "correct" looking rings have been out of stock at Midwest for a while. Just snagged these on eBay last night for $10 a pair, rather than what $16 each? I'll report on how they are when I get them.

Besides Shughart’s M1A and a basic m16a1, is there any other logical Delta/Ranger clone?
I guess some 14.5” guns?

M60 seems unrealistic lol

Who was the other shot-down pilot with the MP5? Durant? A3 collapsible stock?

I have seen a lot of underfolders, AKMS, in pictures from Somalia. But a good ole AKM would be just fine too. Who know what countries they could've received them from, but Russian, Bulgarian, East German, Egyptian and the like are all possible.

Swapping over my weaver base light mount from FAB 6 holes to the new B5 6 holes. The radius of the base matches both 6 hole skinny’s almost perfectly. I remember the base being for a 10/22 but there’s a 503 stamped on the base which I think is/was sold together with the 504. In case that helps anyone. I shave down the second to last rib completely and then shave the forward most rib down approx half way as needed to make the light parallel with the barrel. The third rib acts like a backstop for the weaver base. Then drill the holes and bolt it on. I’m sure there’s better ways but seems alright for me so far.

The checkering and the Fleur-De-Lis makes me think it’s just a standard 870. The forend doesn’t match (no checkering or Fleur-De-Lis) but could’ve been replaced with one not as long so it didn’t cover up the loading port when pulled to the rear.

In the movie there’s a few during the prisoner extract after the target building @ around 49m
And Grimes had one a few moments later at the 5 ton trucks

What’s the appropriate lower for the M16a2s?

One of those delta guys in the movie has a Remington MCS 870. Wonder if that’s accurate

Tons of pics of both Rangers and Delta with M16A2/M203s. A lot with flashlights, which I find particularly cool

I would think a correct lower would be either A1 over stamp (A2 over A1, Burst over auto) or a Colt property marked M16A2.

Got the Gordy build together.

Unfortunately, I’m having some concentricity issues.  Tried two other different cans/mounts and am getting the same result.  It appears the threads are concentric.  I’m going to contact the person who did my barrel chop and see what the options are.

This build is cursed for me.  Tried it in the past and it didn’t work out either.

Who’d you use for the barrel work? Where did you get the upper/barrel from? Is the collar from Ron?

I bought a clone-ish 14.5” upper, sent it to Ron, and got back an upper with the collar that runs great with the Gordy/M4 can he built/sold me.

Retro Arms chopped the barrel, which is why I'm even hesitant to say the threads aren't concentric.  John does great work and has assured me he'll get it taken care of.

The barrel is a 14.5 FN.  I bought the M4 collar from Ron without realizing they come with different sleeves from the AEM5.  ADCO made the sleeve that's compatible with the longer collar and AEM5.

Interesting.  That sucks.  Like I said, this is a cursed build.  First barrel I had chopped (by a local gunsmith), it was cut too short.  Now this.

I may just chop it to 10.3 and give up on the Gordy.

Do both. Everyone should have a 10.3 upper and a new 14.5 barrel isn’t too expensive.

Call ron. He will tell ya that sometimes barrels do weird things. Sometimes it all looks ok but then itll even shoot the end  just cause a bullet didnt like the hole like it shoulda.

If you are having problems, id suggest sending a barrel to him for collar and profile if he can fit ya in.

Should I go 12.5 or middy 14.5 pinned welded. Neither are 100% accurate, the 14.5 mid is less hassle but the 12.5 looks more accurate with ocm5 attached.

Correctness aside, I say 12.5 for handiness. The middy would still be cool as hell tho and better if you have orangutan arms or something. I have brake & collars on a 12.5, 14.5, 16, and an 18 and I love them all.

Been piecing this together for a couple years. Needs a dedicated lower. 12.5" with a long thread brake and AEM5. C7 upper from some internet vendor not long before H&R started offering them. Went with a Weaver carry handle mount for the vibe...probably switch it out for a different mount sooner or later.
