I am looking to get my first crossbow. How much performance difference is there between the following categories: $2k I value weight and size. I am disinclined to spend much more than $1k. But if a $1600 Ravin or $2k TenPoint will be leaps and bounds better, I'm willing to make that investment for deer hunting. Currently looking at either a TenPoint Venom X for about $1k, or a Ravin 10/X for $1300-1600. A Ravin 26X seems to fit the ticket at weight, 26", and width. The $2k is what gets me. I don't have any guns that are over $1k each. It's kind of hard to justify spending more on a crossbow than a firearm for me, especially since bows appear to need a lot more maintenance, but maybe I don't know better. |

I still hunt with an exalibur micro, a recurve crossbow, shoots 330 FPS and I still kill deer 50 yds away, I've achieved arrow pass thru each time. You can buy one of these for well under $1K, no cams or levers to break or go out of tune. I'm sure the latest Ravin is awesome, but to me, it's not $3K worth of awesomeness, IMHO. |

Yes, I have seen some of his videos. He seems to really like the Ravins. I feel like Ravin is the right choice. It just feels right. I've had my eye on the R10X and R26 for a couple years now. The price of a crossbow could get me into NODs/thermal though

I'm a meat hunter anyway, I really don't feel undergunned with what I'm using. The price of crossbows has increased crazily since I bought mine in 2011. What are you going to use it for? My Excalibur Bulldog 330 is simple, accurate, easy to maintain at home without a press, and was inexpensive. Deer ain't hard to kill, and you don't need top end speed. This would last a lifetime, and, if there's issues, the warranty is awesome. Mag 340 |

| I've wanted to get into my state's archery season, and crossbows are legal here. I figured I'd ask here: is it better to wait for the conclusion of the archery season to purchase a crossbow, or doesn't matter? Are crossbows finicky enough I should consider strictly new, or used are ok? |
