Here is a service that finds a place to scan your prints and gives you the EFT file.  For me it says $65 at my local UPS store.

I wish Silencer Shop would just give us that option.  They already have my prints.

I know.  I was just looking into that. Supposedly they don't have the capability to export them as that file type. But they can print them for you. At $15 a pop. Per someone who checked with them.

I'd pay them the $50 or $65 that seems to be the going price if they did it, but it may just be they don't want our business on this.

Since they are doing eForm 4s.  I highly doubt thats the case.  I wouldn't be surprised if they realize if they give people the EFTs, that eliminates a revenue stream.

There may be a whole bunch of people that need the efts if they want to stay legal w/ F-Troop and their brace ban.

I had an appointment yesterday at a local UPS store and the folks there were clueless.  I ended up not getting them done and have to call PrintScan tomorrow to see if they can straighten it out or refund me.  I even went through the process on my phone with the clerk and neither him or any of the other employees had a clue on what to do.

Just use  https://www.nationalguntrusts.com/ and select the mail in option with pre-paid label. I had some issues and both the folks at National Guntrusts and Printscan handled it extremely well. National GunTrusts was responsive on the weekend and PrintScan fixed the issue and made. the file available just a couple of hours after opening on Monday morning.

Yes the pre-paid cost more. Fuck the poors.

Turns out I was missing an email that contains a QR code to use at the self-service kiosk.  A+ out to Printscan's customer service.  I left a voicemail this morning and within 30 minutes got a call back and an email with the QR code.  Just make sure you have that before you show up at the UPS store.  Had a different crew at the UPS store today and they were very helpful and I had my digital prints done within 20 minutes.  Received the email with the download link before I even left the store.  Just make sure you don't download the prints on your phone.

Got it…thanks!

I just got done and got the email too. I get why they say that but it wouldn’t really hurt anything to download it to your phone and then upload it to your own file server.

I’ll do what they say though and download it when I get home.

The process was pretty painless.

Yes, but when you ask them about it, most (in my area) are likely to only know them as a NIST file, and you'll probably have to ask their IT person. It's probably not something any of the clerks or records personnel have dealt with.

You are rescanning all of your fingerprints.

I had my email within 5 minutes of the screen saying I was done.

Now we’ll see what the ATF says about them.

Would I be correct in ASSuming that I can ignore the Cover Letter that came with the submission email from the ATF stating that I need to submit fingerprint cards within 10 days since I already submitted the ETF file?

ETA: In looking at the Cover Letter more closely it has a little grid at the bottom with my name in the first column and REC’D in the second column. I’m guessing that means they have my prints so I’m good to go.

Maybe good news for some. If you have your prints on file with Silencer shop, they may be setting something up on their site to submit your form 1's.  No idea what they will charge though.

When I got a reply from them yesterday they said there's no way to get an EFT file from them but maybe they'll do the entire process with them instead?

At least the EFT file has the basic information like name and address in standard ASCII so you can modify it if you move.

How would having a healing cut injury on one of your fingers have with prints?

I doubt I will form 1 anything but if I did, I would need an eft file. But I recently cut my pointer finger and it's all messed up (on finger tip pad).  So that got me thinking if I could even get my prints done. Or if those prints would just be rejected.

They're not encrypted.
There are images (your prints) embedded in the file, after the ASCII header.

Speaking of EFT and ASCII headers, does anyone know which field the Social Security Number goes in and whether it's required or not? I sent a card to Midwest Silencers for EFT conversion and did not include my SSN, but I thought I read a post here or on Reddit that 'they' wanted it on the EFT files. I don't mind sending the number directly to the government since they have it already and it's all over 28 years worth of my military documents, but I'm not comfortable handing it out to everyone.

I did open a copy of the EFT with a text editor and it looks like all of the identifying info is in the first line in plain text, with number prefixes (01, 02, 03, etc.) identifying the fields. I'm not sure if I can edit it just a text editor (without corrupting it) and if I can just add the SSN to the appropriate location.

Yes you can add it. I've not seen anything to indicate there's a "checksum" inside the file so it shouldn't matter if you change it (or change the length).
Edit: Now I have. Good work @grondike

Awesome response - thanks! I'll probably skip editing after browsing through the specs looking at the different fields and finding this for 1.01.

Field 1.01 shall begin with "1.01:" followed by the length of the record including every character of every field contained in the record and the information separators.

And googling for whether it's required on the card brought up this post from the archive with some familiar names quoted.

Is it normal to have the ATF ask for finger print cards after you've submitted them via EFT file?  When I received my confirmation email that my form one moved from submitted to "in process" the cover letter still says they need prints.

I'm thinking this is just a default thing that's sent out in case you didn't upload EFT prints.

Also, do I send the CLEO the responsible persons form that I up loaded and the water marked form 1 that the ATF emails you?  Or, just the responsible persons form?  I think they both have the same info.

Actually I am a bit confused on this piece.  In regards to not having to engrave the Amnesty form 1s, does this only apply to firearms that were manufactured and shipped with braces by the manufcaturer?

Or does it also include those firearms that the end user added a brace to?  Hopefully, this makes sense.

Or does it also include those firearms that the end user added a brace to?  Hopefully, this makes sense.

From what I’ve seen none of them need to be engraved.

Only ones that need to be engraved are “privately made firearms”, for example an 80% lower that has no information on it.  If you have a standard lower from Colt, SiG, Spikes, Aero, etc. that has the normal manufacturers engravings (serial, model, address), you don’t need to engrave any other info.  You just use the existing manufacture’s info.  Doesn’t matter if it started as a stripped lower, complete lower, or complete gun.

You don't have to get these Amnesty Form 1's engraved just an FYI.

Damn, if I knew that I would have bought a brace for my Charger instead of filing a normal Form 1.

Nope....and they also upped the price of 2 printed cards from $15 to $40 the other day.

The UPS Store process was painless and well worth the $70.

i'm debating just getting prints to have on file. But my I sliced some flesh off my index finger a few days ago in the kitchen. Hate to spend the money and have prints rejected.

they say if they are rejected you can get one do over for free from what I was reading after I paid my money. they have it in there FAQ.  so that might be a bright point if you try it and it gets thrown back. you could heal up and then go get a new set done. ouch about the finger.
