I'm a multicam queer, I'll probably pick up a few new patterns
Multicam Alpine?
When did they start making their car stereos and speakers in this color? |
Looks to me like they're playing catchup with A-Tacs LE by releasing the MC black.

Still waiting for a decent snow camo View Quote Snow camo is easy, white oversuit and spray paint. Then it gets waterlogged and freezes solid, weighs triple it's dry weight, sags off your body, buckles and ties freeze over.... I'm waiting for good snow camo too. My stuff is good concealment, but it's horrible to use. |
For the Army's camo competition the requirement was a pattern for each environment. I imagine this is just a byproduct of that.

Another MC fan checking in, but I think the Army should have just gone with MARPAT woodland for dark forest/jungle, add an arctic pattern (MARPAT again?), and stuck with MC for everything else. But who am I to suggest that the gubment not waste money?

I like the looks of multicam black. I don't know about functional, but it does look cool.
Camo is starting to hit the point of diminishing return. Its just for show now.

[Still waiting for a decent snow camo PenCott Snowdrift. Do you really expect any pattern to work well in arid, temperate, and snow, or was this tongue-in-cheek? That PenCott looks nice, though. |

FYI the Multicam 'black' was accidentally released early by LA police gear
ho hum. Makes sense for uniformed SWAT with money to burn, I suppose http://soldiersystems.net/2013/11/23/multicam-black-game-on/ |

ATACS and Kyptek showed that you could make money selling multiple color ways of the same pattern. Crye is simply being smart and expanding their market to do the same thing.

View Quote Good lord, that is fucking awful!. As for the MC Alpine, yeah I'll pick that up. |
Isn't regular MC Arid?
That Black is no benifit over actual black. |
View Quote Looks more like A-Tacs VG (video game) to me. Cool pattern, though. |
The pattern layering is over 150 levels deep in MC. Very difficult for the human eye to focus on it. IMHO, MC works in just about all non-urban environs except snow. They are obviously trying to keep market share. |
I wonder if this is actually going to be integrated into Crye's own line.
If so I'm going to need more JPC's lol |

there is a purpose the pattern composition works Please elaborate. The pattern layering is over 150 levels deep in MC. Very difficult for the human eye to focus on it. There's three layers and six colors to normal/transitional multicam. I asked him to elaborate because it sounded like he was referring to MC Black. |
I'd prefer a more brown vs green MC to match temperate forests around me.
Looks like MC got dipped in RIT dye.

My guess it has to do with patterns developed by crye in response to the camo trails. Crye built the four patterns to test and none got picked so they're selling them to the general public.

I think they got the name wrong. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be "MC Blech".

I have to admit. I have spent way too much cash on Multicam stuff, but I'm just not feeling it. I hope the other colors turn out a bit better.

I hope the other colors turn out a bit better. indeed Maybe Crye and Truspec will have luck selling it to the LE crowd, I dunno. I just dont see it being popular at outside of them and some of the gear nerds like us. Frankly though, if I had to guess, I would say it will flop despite the hype. Who knows though, maybe it will sell. It wouldnt be the first time I've been horribly wrong. |

I like them. BUT my general rule is that I don't like super specific camo.
Many times, I have seen guys in desert camo walk by dark green trees and bushes. I have also seen guys in woodland/forest camo walk into or by bright tan wheat fields or dirt roads/fields. Super specific camo is only a good idea in super specific situations. |

View Quote Yes, but most of the western US could probably get by with the arid camo pretty well. I live in one of the few 'alpine' areas of Utah at 6,000ft and I'd say the alpine would work in 80% of the county. But it's because of that 20% (just like you said) that I'll keep my MC. In the rest of Utah I think MC is a little too green except for a couple of weeks in the spring. I think most camo is simply too dark, when I was bow hunting I could pick out most hunters because they would look like a black blob moving through the woods at distance. Using MultiCam the contrast to the background was a lot less and it is hard to pick them out. I always favor lighter camo over darker, I'd wager the new 'arid' camo would work better in the green areas of Utah than the green camo would work in the arid areas. ASAT camo is really good for this imo. I'm definitely getting some of the white camo, and for coyote hunting outside this county I think the arid will be nice. |
