The base should be swelled out to full diameter. I use a 140gr cast bullet and trim my .40 brass to .690 and it yields a 210gr HP.

When I first started reloading I chucked a two gal. bucket up in my 17"x80" 7.5 hp Clausing lathe. Just a wee bit of overkill, but it worked |

Nothing since 10/19?!?!?
Working up some 9mm loads. Some using AA#2 and W231 
After range trials I decided on: 124gr PRN Xtreme 4.2 W231 Mixed Headstamps CCI Primers Nice low recoil, still cycles the Glock 19 great! Punched out 500 in one sitting :)

I'm not a photographer and my brass isn't as clean as dryflash3s, but here is a few pics of tomorrows ladder test. 
I was extremely carful placing them in and out of the cartons. They run from 58-68 grains of H1000. 
They are long dogs. 3.470" (on the lands in the gun) vs mag length at 3.290.

Loaded up 200 rounds of 223 today to start testing on 2 different rifles. 100 rounds of 55gr Sierra GameKing HPBT (#1390) and 100 rounds of 75gr Hornady Match HPBT (#2279).
This was my first time loading rifle rounds. I have loaded thousands of pistols rounds and decided it was time to stop paying such high prices for rifle ammo. Here are some samples from the batches. Not as shiny as some of those jealousy creating wet tumbling threads. Someday maybe. 55 gr

My no frills, plane jane (no offense Jane if you actually even see this), 230 grain lead hand loads. Lead was melted and cast by a fellow Arfcommer. These were the first 10 rounds reloaded since I got back from Afghanistan in November. I've only been reloading .45 ammo for about 2 years (minus the year I spent in the 'Stan), so I'm about to expand my operation to 9mm and maybe even some .223 if I get brave enough.

More fun with home-drilled hollow points:
These are 175 grain ranch dogs for the 357 magnum 1894c. I'll probably just shoot them in my GP100, because I doubt they'd hold up too well @ 1600fps out of my rifle. 
They are air cooled, 1/2 range lead 1/2 wheel weights, so they are plenty soft.
EDIT to add: Loaded these up with 9 grains of blue dot. 
They weigh 160gr after drilling. Hoping for 1000-1050fps level out of a 4" revolver. |

I bet they really open up, too.
My latest "project"...minimum effort (hopefully stupid quiet when suppressed) 9x19mm. 158gr Rainier Plated RNFP (.38/.357 bullet) loaded over 2.8 grains of Titegroup at 1.075" OAL. My last load was 2.5 grains and it worked but barely cycled my '75B. It would not always fully cycle a friend's XDm. Brass ejected just over my hand and landed in a tight pile right under the gun. 711 avg FPS, 725 high, 692 low, SD of 9 fps. 
The increased charge and switch to RN bullets from Berry's after these should improve cycling. |

No I'm still searching for the right recipe for my Bushy carbine. It don't like anything I've thrown at it yet.
I don't know for sure if I would know if it did, using an EOtech @100yds
I'm open to any suggestions for Hornady V-Max and FMJBT combo with H-335 via IM
