Just making sure i do it right. So, I've manufactured a suppressor and need to log it into my book. Do I show it 'received' from myself or how to i log it? |

• Complete and file the Form 2. • Enter the suppressor into your A&D books. The exact name (or abbreviation) on your FFL is the "Manufacturer, Importer (if any)" column. Fill in model, serial, type, caliber, etc. The exact address on your FFL is what you'd put in the "address where from" column. Real world comment: I've had IOI's tell me you're supposed to complete the book entry within 7 days of actual manufacturing, and I've had other ATF employees say to do it within 24 hours. Kind of typical, if you ask ten government employees, you'll probably get some conflicting answers. :) ATF's website says "Manufacturer Acquisitions: Each licensed manufacturer shall record each firearm manufactured or otherwise acquired not later than the 7th day following the date of such manufacture or other acquisition." Whereas it also says "not later than the close of the next business day after the date of acquisition" for dealers. I don't mess around with using the 7 day window. No reason to allow yourself time to forget or otherwise get sloppy, unless you've got a reason to do so. I always use the same date for the A&D books as the Form 2 is dated, keeps it easy to match up and all the paperwork matches. Basic rule of thumb/best practice: when I put a serial on it, it goes into the books that day. I want any serialized items around to be easily explainable by simply looking in my book. ETA Copy-paste from ATF FIPB's email to me May of last year: "Response: If you are going to utilize a marking service to engrave the firearm, we recommend that you remain with the firearm while it is being marked so that a transfer does not occur. Ideally, a type 07/Class 2 FFL manufactures the NFA firearm and marks it accordingly upon manufacture, then notifies ATF on a Form 2 by close of the next business day." (F2'ing is not the same as "enters it into bound book", but I like to have the F2 and the books dated the same.) |
