Hey guys, does anyone have experience with Faxon’s 10/22 barrels?

I bought a fluted 16” non-TD a few months back and couldn’t group it for crap with a half dozen ammo types. CS was great and sent me a replacement but I can’t fit it into either a Ruger or VQ receiver (including heating the receiver/freezing the barrel).

Did I just get two lemons or should I be upset with the quality here?

The Faxon receivers and barrels don’t get great reviews on the rimfire forums.  I don’t have any personal experience with them.  I stick with what has a good reputation for working, Kidd, Fedderson and Green Mountain for aftermarket barrels.

How do you fuck up a 10/22 BBL?

I generally think highly of FAXON, but man - they can be hit and miss on some things apparently.

Update!

Frustrated with their QC and just sending the barrels back. Bought a fedderson like I should have to start…would absolutely NOT recommend anything from Faxon now

I experienced the same issue.. Except for the barrel got stuck in the receiver. I tried heating it and still cannot remove it....

I will never buy anything else from Faxon.

I have numerous high quality and great performing Faxon barrels, but went with FJF when shopping for another 10/22 barrel last fall.  Everything I read on almost every site I looked at had the same story over and over again about Faxon 10/22 barrels and it was not positive.  The FJF has not disappointed.

The shank on my recently purchased Faxon barrel was quite large. I think they must have done this due to complaints of loose fit in 1022 receivers. Your new Faxon barrel will fit - you just did not heat your receiver enough. Put the receiver in a vice with the barrel opening pointing up, set your heat gun on high, and heat the receiver up way hotter than you did previously. The barrel will slide in without force when the receiver is hot enough.

Oh I got it hot enough…in last ditch I took a torch to it long enough I thought it’d melt

Measure the outside diamter of the shank of the faxon barrel and the inside diamter  of the opening in your receiver with some calipers capable of measuring down to .001 inch.  One could be way out of spec or both could be giving you a tolerance stacking problem. Measuring them is easy and will tell you which part has the issue. You can also calculate with good accuracy how hot the receiver will need to be heated from the 2 measurements.

Standard factory ruger barrel and receiver diameter is 0.685 inch.
