A friend just inherited a late 60s win94 .30-30 It seems to have a metal or hard plastic butt plate. Is there an interchangeable rubber 1” or 1/2” pad? Don’t really want to do a slip-over. Secondly, where would you start on factory ammo? Plinking and whitetail |

If it's a pre '63 Win model 94, don't alter the stock and mount a recoil pad, you'd be lowering the value considerably. Buy a recoil shield from Buffalo arms they're out of stock at the moment, but should be stocking soon. |

A 6lb gun launching a 150gr bullet at 23-2400 fps has a pretty good amount of recoil if you shoot it more than once. |

Just get a slip on. Easier, cheaper, and just as effective. Had a 94 eons ago. I thought the recoil was fairly stout and accuracy was mediocre at best. 30/30 ammo should be available just about anywhere but ammo supply chains have been screwed up for a long time. |

Don't modify the original stock, just swap it out and keep the original wood. Boyd's will sell you a whole new stock for about $140, including a Pachmayr recoil pad. OK, not as cheap as a slip-on, but certainly cleaner looking. Swapping stocks on a Model 94 is easy. The rifle probably needs a good cleaning anyway. If you want synthetic, Ramline and Champion made black plastic stock sets, out of production now, but still available on ebay. |
