Couple of questions- haven't made an SBS before. I want to do a couple of SBS 870s. Where do you find SBR 870 barrels? If there aren't readily made, who do I send 18 inch barrels to for work? Thanks guys. |

No way I’d have one cut down, they’re often around. I’d rather have a factory one I think. I never liked them. We had a couple at work. I happily kept my 18” one. The guys with them did not really like shooting them and they sucked especially when we got some lighter weight training slugs. The training slugs hit the same point of impact with the regular 18-20” barrels but the 14” barrels were way way off with them. i think we only used the training ammo one year due to that even though it was 2 shotguns out of 30 in our zone. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.
| You can find factory 14" barrels on Ebay or EE, or number of other places online. If you want you can send it to a qualified gunsmith, I had my H&R Pardner pump barrel cut to 18.5" for $35 by my local gunsmith even drilled and tapped a new bead for that price. The advantage of a gunsmith is you can have it cut to whatever length you desire, and the cut on mine looks factory. |
| The days of cheap 14" 870 barrels are gone since Remington folded. I picked up a very clean 870 for a song a couple months back to SBS because I remembered seeing inexpensive 14's everywhere. Well, apparently that ship sailed prior to my acquisition and I haven't found a decent 14" barrel for even what I paid for the gun (which admittedly was cheap, but I sure expected barrels to be less $$), let alone less. I just decided to send an 18" to rose to get modified. It'll be more cost effective in the end. |
