I grabbed a bunch of 124 grain FMJ’s from CDVS and decided I’d load up some subs.  I’d posted previously and Amphibian (c3junkie) put up a link to his page on it.  I’m pretty much using his recipe.  3.7 grains of Titegroup with a 1.15” COAL.  I’m trying out the White River 2nd small pistol primers with mixed range brass.

I loaded up some test rounds that I’ll chrono either tomorrow or Monday.  I’ve got a LOT of mowing to do tomorrow at the ranch, so no promises.

What are you shooting them out of?  And I assume you're wanting to shoot subsonic for suppressor use.

I can run 124 FMJ with 4.0 gr. of Win 231 for around 1015 fps. in a 5" 2011.

The same load gave an average of 1083 fps. in an MP5 clone with a 10" barrel, but the max velocity of the group hit 1128 fps., and will produce a sonic crack at around 80°F air temperature and below (per the National Weather Service Speed of Sound Calculator).

Of course, some barrels shoot faster than others.  I have a Ruger PC Carbine that had the barrel chopped to 10".  Shooting the same ammo through that gun on the same day, I got an average of 1054 fps. with a max velocity of 1084 fps.

My point be to work up your load in the gun you intend to use, but be aware longer barrels may produce some sonic crack.

Yes, on top of all that, the 3.7Gr Titegroup w/ 124Gr load I mentioned on my site has a low impulse and may not be reliable in some guns.  I found it odd that it would run my full size UZI just fine but in my 9mm CMMG RDB setup, I had to go with a lighter buffer and spring.  I also had to download the mag by 1 round round for it to reliably strip the first round off the mag.

Whatever 124gr is on sale, at a little over 1000fps with Titegroup has been my go-to 9mm practice load pretty much forever; conservatively I've probably shot 150k of them.  Works great in every pistol I've ever used.

I'm going to test in a Glock 19 Gen 4 with an AAC TiRANT-9s and an MKE MP5.  If it works well, I'll probably use it in a lot of different 9mm's.  At 1.15" I chamber checked it in a couple CZ's with no issues.  I've got a semi Vector Mini Uzi I'll probably shoot it in just because.....

What is the main benefit to this load?
Less recoil?

I have a lot of VV N320 and plenty of 124 FMJ bullets.
Im interested in trying this recipe.
I have a AP5 and a 8" AR9.

I have been making 147g  with 3.7g of N320 for suppressed FRT use.
Works well enough.

Cost and less recoil.  You can usually get 124's pretty cheap.  Also, sometimes I just like to try things.

I spent some time a while back to make a bunch of 9mm loads.
Rounds that could both be used for USPSA and also be subs.

115s to make minor power factor of around 125 are about 1100 fps from my pistols.
Let alone carbines.  They were around 1300 fps.

124s a little over 1000 fps were sub from the pistols but still around 1200+ fps from carbines.

i ended up doing 147s at about 880fps from my pistols and 1000 FPS from my carbines.
yes, I could get 1000 fps from my pistols with them and around 1100 from the carbines as long as not down around freezing or colder, but I've never shot anyone stateside, don't carry my pistol with a suppressor, and didn't need a power factor pushing 1000 for USPSA.

i also messed around a lot with .40 minor.  A power factor of 125 you have to get down around 700fps from a pistol, and it wasn't 100% reliable.  But it felt like an airsoft gun compared to 9mm at 125.  I do load a bunch of them for my 610s when I decide to shoot revolver.  I dialed in a 165 grain load at about 775fps that has less perceived/felt recoil to any round at that power factor that functions in my semis.

Just got back from testing.  I only loaded 10 and shot five from a CZ75 Compact PCR and five from a Glock 19 with a can.

124gr FMJ Subsonic
3.7gr Titegroup, 1.115” COAL, SPP

4.25” Glock 19-4 w/TiRANT-9s:  989fps
3.75” CZ75 PCR:  962fps

So, I had one failure to fire with the PCR.  I shot a mag of CCI Blazer 147’s first to check function and POI/POA.  First round of the reloads failed to pop.  I hit it three times in the PCR and once in the glock.  No dice.

The other nine shot just fine.  I disassembled it when I came home.  The primer did not fire.  Powder was good.  These are White River 2nd primers.  I’m assuming I just found out why.

Otherwise, I’m happy with the results.  I’m “concerned” they will stay subsonic through the MP5, but I’m fine otherwise.  The PCR locked back, but the Glock did not.  I have a TiRANT-9s on the Glock and am using a Silencerco metric barrel.  I was using my normal range Korean Glock mags, and they don’t lock back regularly anyway.

Ejection from the Glock was not energetic.  Ejection was about 2 feet and slightly forward. The PCR put them about 6 feet directly to my right.  Recoil was soft.  I did not take my ear pro off, but they were very clearly quiet.

Correct!
Again, here is a link to my site: https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=2324

I also have this comment on my site, "I have also left my powder measure set to 3.7Gr of Titegroup for my 147Gr loads to also load 124Gr for subsonic.  This works great in my tuned 9mm CMMG RDB setup.  This allows me to leave my powder measure set for 3.7 which I also use for 147Gr."

One of my sons has started shooting SMG matches with me.  So my ammo consumption has gone up.  He isn't shooting much full auto yet but when he does it will really go up.

I wait for sales from American Reloading to get 1000 124Gr jacketed round nose for $60 delivered.  A lot cheaper than shooting 147Gr.
