Anyone here with an AC556 10 inch barrel that can measure the distance from the barrel strap to the threaded shoulder of the barrel, where the flash hider would tighten down against. Attached File |

As far as I know, there was never a 10" factory gun. All the K variants are 13". On my 13" gun that distance you are asking for is 2.5" exactly, but I have an Accuracy Systems gas block, so a factory one may measure a one or two tenths different. Also a factory barrel doesn't have a shoulder, the 9/16x24 threads just stop and the barrel begins. If you're looking at suppressing it, I would STRONGLY recommend getting it rethreaded 1/2x28 with a Q taper. Even going down to 1/2x28 from 9/16x24, there is not much metal to have a shoulder there - with the Q 25 degree taper there's exactly as much metal as you need in the diameter. My 9/16x24 threads were far from concentric. I had Accuracy Systems rebarrel mine with a 13" heavy barrel to solve a number of issues (concentricity, thread pitch, barrel heat temps, potential for gas block to walk off) |
