I am looking at a used unit listed as "FLIR MilSight S135 Magnum Universal Night Sight (MUNS) AN/PVS-27 Magnum Universal Night Sight". I would be running it primarily with my SR-15 LPR and an ACOG but, I also have an LMT MWS with a 4x16 Hensholdt which is what would get >200 yard duty (or feral hogs inside 200 yards).
These seem to be pretty good options that run $4K~$5K so, I'm curious of these older 3rd generation Green Phosphor tubes in them are still a good value today. With modern premium PVS-14 options being >$4K, the price seems reasonable but I don't know much about this generation of NV tube. My only other related NVG scope experience was a long time ago with both a 2nd and early 3rd generation PVS-4.
I am looking to complement my Trijicon IR-Hunter MK3-60mm with a clip-on solution for my semi-auto "day" rifle. There are a lot of NV scopes out there but, knowing what the sweet spot is for build, price, etc. is tough. The large PVS-27 option seems to have a definite advantage for gathering light in general and potentially offers an upgrade path in the future with a newer generation tube. My primary target is dogs beyond 400 yards at night though, feral hogs won't be ignored either (most of my feral hog shots are 150~200 yards though). Given a $4K~$5K budget, am I on the right track considering a used PVS-27?
